Philip J. Zammit
Philip Zammit passed away peacefully at the age of 87, on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Maria Schmit Zammit; loving father of Mike (Aimee Henderson) Zammit, Rose Zammit Mellies, Jim (Cindy) Zammit, Carmen (Anthony) Mulea and Sue (Paul) Boyer; and grandfather of Roland (Van) and Waverly Mellies, Brandon and Kendall Zammit, Gregory and Nicole Mulea, and Tim Boyer.
Philip was born and raised in Malta with 7 older siblings. As an ambitious young man, he set out in search of the American Dream. He met his wife, Maria in Canada before immigrating together to the United States in 1959. The couple settled in Maryland, where they raised 5 children. Philip was proud to be an American and worked hard to provide educational opportunities for his children, which were not available to him during WWII, in war-torn Europe. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, he enjoyed watching Indy car races and spent much of his spare time keeping his teenage children’s 5 Ford Mustangs on the road. Three of his favorite pastimes in retirement were spending time with his wife, bragging about his children, and following the stock market.
