Of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017. She was born in Valley Lee, Maryland on April 26, 1922 and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown, MD. She retired from the Federal Government after 20+ years of service. She and husband Edwin J. Zabel were married for nearly 60 years before his passing in 2008. She has been very active in the Catholic church throughout her life. She is the mother of Mary Anne (Bob) Shepherd, Joseph (Vickie Sindler), Lawrence (Kathy) and Mark (Bernadette) Zabel; grandmother of Heidi Dellafave, Lana Gordon, Katherine Sunder (John), and Matthew (Sally), John, James (Bethany), Monica and Anne Zabel; sister of Joseph (Violet) McKay. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by siblings Elizabeth, Bernard, Benjamin, Aloysius, Xavier, and Virginia McKay. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD on Tuesday, October 31 from 10 to 11 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
