DONALD L. XANDER (Age 88)

On Thursday, April 8, 2010, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Annapolis, MD. Beloved husband of Mildred Harris Xander; devoted father of Donna, Stephen (Sue), Michael and Mark (Diane) Xander and Joan (Mark) Sullivan; cherished “Poppy” to Jennifer, Nathan, Natalie, Christopher, Jasen, Katherine and Thomas. He also was blessed with five great-grandchildren. Born July 2, 1921, he spent his young life in Mt. Rainier, MD. In 1940 he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country throughout the duration of World War II. In 1945 he married his sweetheart and began a long career with the C&P Telephone Company. He will be remembered for his boundless love of his family and his rock-solid faith in God. He had a zany sense of humor and could talk to anyone, anytime, about anything. He could fix anything and generously gave his time and skills to anyone who needed help. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 7501 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, MD, on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 4200 Harewood Road, NE, Washington, DC 20017 or to the Joseph Connolly Scholarship Fund in care of Queenstown Bank, P.O. Box 1035, Stevensville, MD 21666.
