ARELL E. WEAVER “Al”

Passed away early in the morning of August 22, 2015, at Mystic Waters in Lake Lure, North Carolina. Al was the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. “Peg” Weaver; and father of Kathy (Jim), Kevin (Eleanor), Robert (Lyn) and Trish (Mike). He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Corey, Jenna, Bryan (Elina), Kelly, Beth, Keegan, Ryan, Jesse, Christy, David and Charlie. Having graduated from St. John’s College High School, starring in basketball, Al attended Catholic University, again playing basketball and graduating from the ROTC program. Al was the Administrator of the Computer Procurement Program at NASA and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring after 25 years’ service with NASA. He was devoted to Peg, his wife of 57 years. Al loved coaching football, basketball and baseball at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and St. John’s High School. An avid water skier, Al lived for many years in Lake Gaston, NC. More recently, Al and his grandson Corey were an inseparable pair traveling the professional water ski circuit. The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (valet parking). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at St. Andrew Apostle Church, 11602 Kemp Mill Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20902. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
