Mary Patricia Waigand (Age 89)
Mary Pat Waigand, a lifelong resident of Takoma Park, MD, died Wednesday, May 15 at Suburban hospital in Bethesda MD. Born November 27, 1929 in Washington DC. Mary Pat graduated from St Cecelia’s Academy. She went on to become the first female employee for the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department where she dedicated more than 22 years of service as an Administrative Secretary as well as becoming a second mother to the firefighters at the station. Mary Pat loved a good book, sunsets, antiques and strolling through flea markets and craft shows. Mostly, she loved her family and watching them grow. She was an extraordinary listener, a great friend and a wonderful mother, grandmother (Mawmaw) and great grandmother (GeeGee).
She was preceded in death by her son Robert Waigand and her grandson Brandon McKenzie. She is survived by her daughters Donna McKenzie (Ed) and Patricia Butler, grandchildren Jackie Butler Jr, Wayne Butler, Amanda McKenzie, Patricia Shaw, Wyatt McKenzie, 9 great-grandchildren and half-sisters, Sharon, Robin and Holly. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, May 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.; where the Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 20, at 11 a.m. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
