DAVID C. VENABLE (Age 87)
Passed away on Monday November 16, 2015. Dave was born on March 16, 1928, and was raised in Washington, DC. He graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1946, and enlisted in the US Marine Corps to serve his country during WWII. Upon his discharge, he accepted a Naval ROTC scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, where he earned a BA in Chemistry in 1951. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USMC, and served his country another three years, including 15 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954 after attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Dave then enrolled in The George Washington University Law School where he graduated in 1957. He was a member of the Bar in both Washington, DC and Maryland, where he practiced law for 55 years.
Dave was a beloved husband for 57 years to Elizabeth “Betty” Gans Venable; a step-father to Ken Bowles (Sharon) of Olathe, KS; and father to Bruce (Shirley) of Laurel, MD, Dan (Colleen) of Darnestown, MD and James (Martha) Venable of Silver Spring. He was preceded in death by his father, C.A. Venable, Sr.; his mother, Erma M. Venable; his sister, June V. Hatfield and his brother, C.A. “Bud” Venable, Jr. Dave is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium will be held at a later date.
