GEORGE E. TURNBULL, SR. (Age 88)
Of Adelphi, MD, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Born in Oil City, PA to George E. and F. Lottie Turnbull, he is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Patricia Smedley; his son George E. Turnbull, Jr., of Columbia, MD, his daughter Diane T. Dixon of Beltsville, MD; his son Barry C. Turnbull of Melrose, MA and was cherished by his grandchildren, Timothy and Tyler Turnbull and Michael, Adam and Heather Dixon. Serving in WWII in company A 56th Armored Infantry 12th Armored Division, he received two bronze stars and a purple heart. Graduating from Penn State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers working on the design of Buggs Island Dam and numerous river locks including those on Welland Canal, St. Lawrence Seaway, and Soo Locks in Sault STE. Marie, Michigan. He was later employed by the U. S. Postal Service in merchandising design. Graveside service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on June 1, 2010 at 9 a.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the administration building at 8:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans of the American Heart Association.
