Russell Burton Thompson, age 56, of Naples, FL formerly of Silver Spring, MD passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Burt was a cherished husband and father and will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda “Liz” Castano-Thompson; daughter, Nancy “Katie” Thompson; step-daughter, Jessi Warren; father, Bruce Thompson; brothers, Ronald and Robert Thompson; mother-in-law Diane Weaver; and sister-in-law, Judith Adams. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) Thursday, August 18 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19 at 1 p.m. In loving memory, Burt has chosen to be buried beside his mother, Nancy Whiteford Thompson, at Slateville Cemetery in Delta, PA. The burial service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Burt requested memorial donations be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
