January 11 2019: SUMMEROUR, Richard A.

RICHARD AUBREY SUMMEROUR

Rick, born June 16, 1946, passed suddenly at home in Silver Spring, MD on January 5, 2019. He is survived by Mary Martha ‘Marty’ Summerour, his loving wife of 39 years, as well as his daughter, Rebecca Jean Summerour, his son-in-law, Alexander Peter Colwell, his grandsons Jack Summerour Colwell and James Aubrey Colwell, of Takoma Park, MD; and his mother Margaret Lassiter McJunkin and brother William McJunkin of Marietta, GA. He was predeceased by his sister Jane McJunkin Homer of Columbus, IN.

Rick grew up in Marietta, GA. He earned a BA in Economics at Emory University and an MS in Administration at Georgia College. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he served as a linguist in the Air Force. In his career with the Federal Government, he worked as a Contracting Officer and Contract Negotiator in the Aeronautical Systems Division and a Procurement Analyst and Acquisitions Specialist for the Air Force. After retiring in 1995, Rick was a private contractor for LMI and CACI.

Rick was intellectually curious, well informed, and an avid reader. A dedicated gardener, he created a rich native plant sanctuary. He and Marty loved felines and housed many skittish kitties. He adored time with his grandsons.

Beloved by family and friends for his kindness, creative wit, and caring nature, Rick will be dearly missed. His Celebration of Life service will be in Takoma Park, MD on Saturday February 2, 2019, 1-4PM. Contact RichardSummerourMemorial@gmail.com for details.
