Barbara Ann Stroud (Age 83)

On Thursday, October 13, 2016, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Robert M. Stroud, Sr.; mother of Robert M., Jr. and spouse Anita (Lindgren), Susan Georgia and spouse Roberta Kety, and Scott Matthew and spouse Katherine (Rooney); grandmother of Michael, Brian, Caitlin, Maura, and Colleen.

Barbara lived a life full of passion for her family, her Bronx NY Irish Catholic roots, good food (found only in NYC, of course), traveling extensively around the globe, and a love of music/singing, language, particularly Latin and French. She was also fully engaged in both her husband Bob’s 20-year Navy career and her own career in business, starting in the Manhattan buying office of Marshall Field’s Department store, to a long and successful period as real estate broker, and retiring from an office manager position at Temple Beth Ami School in Rockville. The Navy took Barbara and Bob up and down East and West Coasts of the U.S., resulting in their three children being born in three different states: NY, CA, VA.  Barbara and Bob enjoyed 45 happy years of marriage and family together until Bob passed away in 1999. Soon after, Barbara felt that she could find contentment by moving to the new retirement community being built in Silver Spring, committing to a new Riderwood Village apartment while the project was still under construction. As one of its first residents, Barbara felt at home immediately among the wonderful Riderwood community, both residents and staff. Following her tradition of fully engaging in everything, Barbara became a member of the Resident Advisory Council, the resident purchase option committee, dining services committee, the church choir, helped start the Poker Group and the New York Club, and informally mentored a few of the high school staff on their college planning, including writing recommendations when she was asked. She loved spending time with her family and friends; and all who knew Barbara will miss her sharp wit, easy smile, and vibrant, inquisitive spirit.
