
JOANNE CHANDLER STATHES
Joanne Chandler Stathes, of Silver Spring, MD, a sparkling diamond among the dozen children born to the late Guy and Inez Martin Chandler, in Dante, Virginia, entered into eternal life June 2, 2015. A visitation for friends and family will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., West, Silver Spring, MD, at 10 AM on Friday, June 5, prior to the funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Rd., Rockville, MD. In 1957, Joanne started a lifelong career with Kluge & Co., a food brokerage firm that quickly expanded to become Kluge, Finkelstein & Company, one of the premier food brokerage companies in the Washing- ton/Baltimore area. In 1971, Joanne was promoted to Vice President, leading to part ownership of the firm in 1986. She retired from the food brokerage business in 1997. She was inducted into the Maryland Food Industry Hall Of Fame in September 2012. Joanne supported many organizations and, in particular, Foundation for Blindness. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Arion Chapter 298 of Silver Spring, where she served in many positions including Chapter President and District 3 Governor. Joanne, was an elegant, caring and sensitive woman in all of her relationships; a respected and honored role model, mentor, confidant and friend to many. She was a worldwide traveler, enjoyed life to the fullest; her home, affectionately known as “the chapel” due to the numerous wedding ceremonies hosted there. Joanne’s passion and delight was entertaining her many lifelong friends and, most importantly, her family, who was always invited to festive occasions and holiday celebrations. Above all, Joanne was absolutely devoted to her husband, the late S. Thomas Stathes. Joanne is the mother of John Forbes, step-mother of Christopher (Deborah) Stathes, loving grandmother of Nathan, Austin, Alexander, Gregory, and Hilary; great-grandmother to Vivian, Thomas, and Dylan. Joanne, who will be long-remembered as her memory lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her many friends, caretakers, and Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice, who attended to her through the final days of her earthly journey.
