Of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2016 at Bedford Court Assisted Living Center in Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Doyle Dean Smith, Sr.; mother of the late Susan Gobel, Cheryl Altemose (Russ), Doyle Dean Smith, Jr. (Debbie), Pamela Whyel (Allen) and Scott Smith (Linda). Also survived by her two sisters, Jane Rajotte (Dick) and Patricia McQuin (Bob); 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Betty was born in Washington, DC on August 17, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Saxton) Stone. She was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, Class of 1942, and attended St. Michael”s Church in Silver Spring, MD. She was a founding member of the Silver Spring Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of Chi Sigma Sorority. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, January 17, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church, 805 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Monday January 18, at 10 a.m. Interment Parklawn Memorial Park.
