
DONALD EUGENE SMITH (Age 90)
On Wednesday May 4, 2016, of Washington, DC. Beloved husband of Barbara Pindar Smith; father of Gregory Allgire (Susan Watts) Smith, Cecily (Stephen) Fishack, Andrea-Marie (Donald Jones) Smith-Jones, Veronica Smith (Michael) L”Allier, Mark Stratton (Elizabeth Bloch-Smith) Smith, Teresa Marie Smith, Valerie Marie Smith, Jeffrey Collert (Jeanne) Smith, and Stephanie (Bradford) Bosserman. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and brother, Gordon Smith. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Reichert Smith; great-grandson Charles Jay Smith; sister, Jacqueline Hohler and sister-in-law, Bonita Smith. He entered St. Joseph”s College Rensselaer, IN, in September 1942. In March 1944, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force. In 1946, he returned to St. Joseph”s and graduated in 1947 with a B.S. in Mathematics. He went to University of Michigan and earned an M.A. in Political Science in 1948 and continued graduate studies at The Catholic University of America where he received a Ph.D. in Political Science in 1951. Mr. Smith retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 1981 as Director of Training and Education. At the time of his death, Donald Smith had completed a study of the many technological achievements of Medieval French Monasteries. Relatives and friends may call at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Duffy Center Chapel, 3630 Quesada St., N.W., Washington, DC 20015 on Thursday May 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Friday, May 13, at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Zacchaeus Soup Kitchen, C/o the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada St., N.W.,Washington, DC 20015.
