ERWIN HENRY SCHULER, JR. (Age 93)
On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, of Kensington, MD. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Schuler; father of Emett Schuler, Jeanne Flottemesch, Sara (Tim) Bowen, Joseph (Barbara) Schuler, James (Salma) Karanouh-Schuler, and Erwin Schuler III.; grandfather of Robert, Katherine, Eran, Christopher, Joshua, Matthew and Joyce; brother-in-law of Fr. Bonaventure Stefun and Barbara Schuler. Born in 1921, Erwin was youngest of three. After earning BA, BS, and MA degrees, he enlisted in the United States Navy as the country faced the crisis presented by a looming World War. He was awarded the ribbon bar of the Navy Unit Commendation by the United States Naval Communication Intelligence Organization for service from December 1941 to September 1945. After being discharged from the Navy, he began his career with the IRS, where he rose to Chairman fo the Central Committee, the position he held until retirement. Not only was Erwin a loving spouse, father, grandfather, and friend, but he was also a devoted caregiver to his wife in her last years. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Thursday, April 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
