James “Jim” Scott Schoening

James “Jim” Scott Schoening passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Columbia, Maryland at the age of 60.

Jim is survived by his father, James Schoening and step-mother, Paula Schoening of Lewiston, Michigan; husband, Doug Cincotta of Woodstock, Maryland; daughter, Holly Keller and son-in-law, Shawn Keller of Rock Springs, Wyoming; sister, Virginia Beane (Rob); sister, Betty Gaydos (Craig); brother, Danny Schoening (Laura), and many beloved family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Gwendolyn Kennedy and beloved grandparents Alton and Marion Schoening and Loren and Margaret McEwen.

Jim was born on June 29, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Clarenceville High in 1978. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably for 11 ½ years. He spent time defending our country during Desert Storm and went on to work and retire from the U.S. Government. Jim met his partner, and now husband, soon after leaving the Navy and they shared 30 wonderful, loving memorable years together.

Jim was an outstanding cook, excellent decorator, made friends wherever he went, was very generous and caring towards his family and friends. His quick wit and warm heart left everyone feeling better.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042 on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM with a funeral service and a time of fellowship to follow at 4:30 PM. Further services will be held at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road, White Lake, Michigan 48386 on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with a memorial service and a time of fellowship to follow at 1:00 PM.
