Mary M. Sampogna

Mary M. Sampogna (Age 87)

Mary Margaret (Peggy) Sampogna of Silver Spring, Maryland was called home to Heaven on Thursday, August 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family, including her devoted husband, Anthony. Peggy was born on September 28, 1929 to the late Henry Edmund Dietz and Evelyn Mae (Dorsey) Dietz of Baltimore, MD.

She was the beloved mother of Teresa Hughes (Barry), Connie Igou (Randy), John Sampogna (Katie), Barbara Morrison (John), Christoper Sampogna (Nicky). She also is survived by her dear cousin, Audrey Waters. Peggy was predeceased by a son, Paul Sampogna. She is also survived by 11 precious grandchildren: Christy Turner (Matt), Tony Thomas (Heather), Patrick Hughes, Michael Boone, Laura Hughes, Natalie Boone, Jenny Sampogna, Maria Sampogna, Ryan Sampogna (Crystal), Ariana Sampogna, Aaron Sampogna. She was also loved by her three great-grandchildren: Reagan Thomas, Kaylee Sampogna, and Thomas Turner.

It was Peggy’s dream to move to the beach, and after retirement for over 20 years she and Anthony enjoyed living in Ocean City, MD and the Delaware towns of Bethany, Millville, and Ocean View. They moved to the Riderwood Village in 2011.

Peggy became a visual artist while a teenager and although never formally trained, she took numerous classes, workshops and was active in a number of local art leagues. She was a founding member of the Delaware Artist Exchange. Peggy was an award-wining contemporary abstract artist of mixed media collages and acrylic paintings that have been displayed in countless galleries, museums, and juried art shows. Many of her works of art reflected her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Peggy lived her Catholic faith. She was a Eucharistic Minister, prayed the Rosary daily, created banners for Liturgies and brought her artistic talents to church liturgical planning committees.

She will be dearly missed, but her spirit and love will live on in her family.
