QUENTIN R. REMEIN (Age 96)
Of Bethesda, MD, died peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on Monday, August 1, 2016. He was born in Rochester, NY and graduated from Calvin College in 1945. In World War II, he served as 2nd Lt, US Army in the South Pacific theatre. Then for 29 years he served with distinction for the US Public Health Service, eventually becoming the Associate Director for Programs of the National Center for Health Statistics. During his career, he worked to bring together preventive disease measures, medical research and health care for those with chronic diseases. His lifelong mission was to serve God through volunteer work in the Christian Reformed Church (CRC). He participated in the organization and leadership of the Washington DC and Silver Spring CRCs and the founding of Washington Christian Academy. He served on the World Missions Board for the CRC and represented World Renew as Executive Secretary of NVOAD, a coalition of major disaster relief organizations that work together to improve responses to national disasters. He had an interest in trains and was an HO train model enthusiast. Quentin was the beloved husband of the late Harriet A. Remein; father of Quentin (Mary) Remein II, Kay Remein and Teresa Remein; brother of the late John and Charles Remein; grandfather of Matthew Remein, Sarah (Shaun) Stiemsma, and John Remein; great-grandfather of Lucas, Elise, Clark, Blake and Viola Stiemsma. Relatives and friends may call at Silver Spring Christian Reformed Church, 1501 Arcola Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 8 p.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
