THERESA MALONEY REDDY
Theresa Maloney Reddy, 86, died early on the morning of April 11, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Silver Spring, Maryland after battling illness for 16 months. She was born in Brooklyn, New York August 8, 1929 to Robert J. Maloney and Agnes (Thompson) Maloney and had one sister, Agnes Maloney Adams, who all preceded her in death. Theresa was married to the deceased Col. John J.P. Reddy, (Ret.) and was an active Marine wife. As such, she was president of the Cherry Point Garden Club, member of the Officer’s Wives Club and mentor to many junior officers’ wives including the two generations that followed her with her son’s and grandson’s wives. She embodied the Marine motto, Semper Fidelis, being always faithful to her family, friends and the Corps. Theresa was a 1951 graduate of St. John’s University and remained active in the St. John’s Lewis Avenue Alumni Association. She received her master’s degree from Old Dominion University. Professionally, she was a teacher, reading specialist and a retired academic advisor for ODU. Theresa has lived on the Outer Banks of North Carolina since retiring and was active in her community. She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church and long time lay minister. She was also a member of the Dare County Master Gardeners, the Duck Woods Country Club, the American Association of University Women, and the Red Hat Society. Theresa is survived by her five children: Brigid (Ed) Hagarty of Silver Spring, MD; John Reddy of Knoxville, TN but doing civilian duty in Kuwait; Bob (Denise) Reddy of Greenville, SC; Ann Reddy of Findlay, OH; and Peter (Lisa) Reddy of Charleston, SC. She has 11 grandchildren: Katie (Jen) and Patrick Hagarty; Jocelyn (Matt) Toman; Erin, Sean, Christopher, Robert (Sam), John, and Thomas Reddy; Catharine and Walker Damon; and one great grandchild expected in June. She was a beloved aunt to Bernadette (Bryan) McCann, Brian Adams, Anne (Keith) Davis and the late Jeanne Adams and their families. She will be missed by countless dear friends including those of her children whom she counts among her own. A funeral mass will be held at the Quantico Memorial Chapel, Quantico Marine Base, VA, on April 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Quantico National Cemetery at noon.
