James Frederick Rauch

James Frederick Rauch (Jim) was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the first son of Fred Albert and Martha Lee Rauch.  He was born December 5, 1945 and died on January 14, 2019 at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland.  He was 75 years old.

Mr. Rauch is preceded in death by his son, Eric Lee Rauch and sister-in-law, Kathleen Rauch.  He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Veronica Abonite Rauch, his son Christopher Thomas Rauch, one granddaughter, Ashleigh Nicole Rauch and his cat, Chanel.  He is survived by three brothers, Phillip Lee Rauch, Dr. William Jack Rauch (Norene) and John Matthews Rauch (Linda) and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim is one of five recipients of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) citizenship award.  He is a graduate of Tulsa Central High School where he lettered in track and field as a sprinter and loved building sets for plays and musicals and serving as a light board operator during performances.

After high school he attended the University of Tulsa and completed a two year course in X-Ray technology at Hillcrest Medical Center where he received national credentialing by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  Upon graduation, he served as a special studies radiographic technologist at the W.K. Warren Research Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jim joined the Army during the Vietnam War as a Radiologic Technologist and served in the Medical Company, Valley Forge General Hospital, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania as the Supervisor of Diagnostic Medical Radiologic Technology with responsibility for approximately 50 employees.  He is a member of the American Society for Radiologic Technologist (ASRT) and an Associate Member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.  Upon completion of his military service, he accepted a position as Assistant Chief Technologist of Radiology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado.

He left Fitzsimons to accept a position as Chief X-Ray Technician and Technical Director of Radiology at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.  While at Holy Cross, he designed a new 15 room diagnostic Radiology Department, selected equipment and supervised both installation and quality acceptance testing.  He served as a guest speaker at the Maryland Society of Radiographic Technologists, the National Meeting of Radiology Administrators and numerous local meetings of radiographic technologists.  He also served as a consultant to the Bureau of Radiological Health and the American College of Radiology.

He left Holy Cross to form his own Radiographic Consulting Company with an emphasis on quality control testing of new products, film, screens and medical office design.  He founded and was a co-owner of one of the first Mobile X-Ray companies, fulfilling a long established need in the community.  He invented and sold a Film Bin Alert that reduced accidental and unintended exposures of X-Ray film.

Jim loved karaoke and many nights he could be found singing locally or among karaoke groups on the internet.  No Russell Stover raspberry cream was safe within Jim’s grasp.  Jim became quite an expert with computers and often repaired both software and hardware problems for his friends.

Relatives and friends may call at the Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, Maryland (Valet Parking) on Monday, January 21 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  A memorial service will be held at the Collins Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00 AM.  Jim will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be announced.
