BETTY LOU PHUCAS (Age 81)
On Friday, February 5, 2010, of Silver Spring, MD. Born August 17, 1928 in Montgomery County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clifton C. and Ethel B. Sorrell Stephens of Mt. Airy, MD. Her husband, Andrew Nickolas Phucas, a WWII paraplegic veteran died December 31, 1984 from the latent effects of his wounds. He served in Patton’s 80th Company H 319th Infantry Division in the European Normandy Campaign, as a heavy machine gun 605 squad leader. He, together with Betty, were members of the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. in Silver Spring, MD. She is survived by a daughter, Andrea V. (Carlos) Melendez of Highland, MD; granddaughter Tiffani Melendez Kiernan of St. Charles, MO; great-grandchildren Carli and Colin Kiernan of St. Charles, MO, Andrew and Bailey Quain of St. Peters, MO, and Skyleler Knuttilla of St. Charles, MO; brothers, Frederick W. Stephens of Manchester, MD and Irving E. Stephens of Monrovia, MD. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ginger Melendez Quain Knuttilla and a brother, Ernest J. Stephens. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) on Thursday Monday, February 15 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 16 at 11 a.m. Interment next to her husband will be held immediately following in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
