Shirley Ann Pendry

Shirley Pendry, died peacefully on December 21, 2015, at her home in Hyattsville, Maryland.  Mrs. Pendry had long suffered from frontal temporal dementia.  She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Carmen Pirie, her sisters Alice, Margaret and Florence, brother Earl, and grandson Michael Pendry.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Bill, who cared for her throughout the 15 plus years of her illness, her son David (Tuoc), daughter Jo (Bill), son Michael (Ann), grandchildren Nicholas, Kristen, Amanda and Casey, great grandson Brandon, and tender caregiver, Morena Zelaya. Also surviving are her two nieces, Shirley Capino and Gloria Page.

Shirley was born in Washington, DC in on March 19, 1933 to Carmen Babbitt Pirie and David Pirie.  She had red hair and blue eyes and was the apple of her father’s eye. She was the baby in a large family and grew up happy, healthy, loved and protected.

She attended DC public schools and upon graduation, began working at GC Murphy’s. From there, she went to work at a furniture store where she would meet her future father-in-law, Clyde Pendry, who would introduce her to her future husband, Billy.

After a short romance, the two married.  Shirley was 23.  She dedicated her life to raising her children and was loving companion to her husband of 60 years.  She was kind and generous to all she met and never knew a stranger.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Chesapeake for their loving care over the past year to their mother and wife, especially Paige, Linda, and Stacy.

Services will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, Maryland, Monday, December 28, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with Funeral Services at 11:00 am.  Interment to follow immediately at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
