Phyllis Anne Mulligan (Age 85)

Passed away Friday, June 24, 2016. Born on Valentine’s Day on Long Island, NY in 1931 to Frederick and Eleanor Menke. She graduated from Adelphi University in 1952, where she met her husband, Richard. They married on May 6, 1956, moving to Iowa, Texas, and finally settling here in Maryland. Phyllis worked for 12 years for Maryland – Social Services. She served as a dedicated Smithsonian docent upon retirement. She is survived by her loving husband, Dick; son Matt and wife Barbara and grandsons, Matthew and Daniel; daughter, Leslie; and son, Rick and wife Edna Armendariz and granddaughter, Alexandra. Phyllis was kind and caring, with a warm, nurturing nature. An avid bridge player, she also loved to write, especially about her global travels. As a talented artist, she created unique ceramic pieces for grandchildren. She was the heart of her family. Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 7 to 9 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd West, Silver Spring, MD. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of the Resurrection at Riderwood Village, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:30 a.m.
