
WINIFRED JEAN LUMSDEN (Age 91)
On, Thursday, March 17, 2016, Winifred “Winnie” Jean Lumsden of Silver Spring, MD. Born July 7, 1924 in Altoona, PA, to Clement Joseph and Agnes (De Temple) Weible. The family moved to Washington, DC, in 1935. Predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Eugene Lumsden, son Roderic Lincoln, and sisters Roberta McMahon, Geraldine Coakley and Joanne Gregory. Beloved mother to Royce W. Lincoln, Duane B. Lincoln, and Cheryl Lincoln Bozick (Joseph). Grandmother to Brooke Lincoln, Dale Lincoln, Luke Bozick and Evan Bozick. Winnie, as she was known, graduated from St. Patrick”s Academy in Washington, DC in 1942 and in the same year, started working at the War Training Center in Washington, DC. Winnie worked on an innovative program entitled “The Helicopter Project” until 1947. She married Bridwell W. Lincoln in 1946 and then moved to Silver Spring, MD. The family also lived in Chicago, Illinois, Princeton, New Jersey, and the Poconos in Pennsylvania and returned in 1964 to Silver Spring, Maryland. Winnie returned to work in 1965 at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where she worked for 25 years as the Director of Committee Management. Winnie retired in 1990. It was during her time at NIH that Winnie met and married her beloved Gene Lumsden with whom she shared 35 loving years of marriage. Throughout her life Winnie was kind, loving and fun to be around. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially after her retirement at her second home on Kent Island, MD. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15661 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD 20906 on Tuesday, March 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
