STAMATIOS JOHN KIMINAS (Age 85)

Stamatios John Kiminas, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland of 50 years, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2019, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Jeannette Peltekian Kiminas; father of John S. Kiminas (Angela) and Marika L. Cook (Christopher); grandfather of Jett Kiminas, Ainsleigh and Samuel Cook. He is also survived by his sister Ioanna Kiminas.

Born in Syros, Greece to John Stamatios and Marika Madeira Kiminas on January 3, 1934, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 20 with $50 in his pocket and knowing no one in the US.  He found work at the Greek and Ghanian Embassies and in 1965 he began a career at the International Monetary Fund, working there for 30 years. Of all his life accomplishments, Stamatios was especially proud to become a U.S. Citizen in March, 1967.

Stamatios and Jeannette met in Washington, D.C. in early 1964 and, both having a mutual love of ballroom dancing, danced away almost every evening together. They were married at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, D.C. on October 30, 1964 by Father John Tavlarides.

Visitation with relatives and friends will occur at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 36th St & Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC, Monday, September 23, from 10 to 11 a.m.; Funeral Services will follow at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church 11 a.m. with interment following the funeral service at Parklawn Memorial Park.
