CHARLES R. JOHNSON “Dick” (Age 91)
Passed away in his home in Silver Spring, MD on March 1, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ann (Whitcomb) Johnson; son, Richard D. Johnson, of Baltimore, MD, sister, Rosalie (Johnson) McGrath, children Kathy Pitman, Judy Blood, Robert Hessler, Peggy Moore, and five grandchildren. Dick was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Helen (Horvath) Johnson in 1991.
Dick was born in New York City, NY, a graduate of Blair High School (“42), attended the US Naval Academy, Georgetown University, and served in the US Navy. Dick was a transportation executive for 50 years in the Baltimore/Washington area, having worked for truck lines Time-DC, Transcon and ANR Advance before retiring to Sarasota, FL in 2000. After retirement, Dick was instrumental in working with elected officials in Sarasota to attract the Baltimore Orioles to their current spring training location.
A private internment is scheduled for March 9 at 11 a.m. at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium, MD. Friends are invited to a memorial service on March 10 at 11 a.m. in the Interfaith Chapel in Leisure World, 3680 S Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906, followed by a reception at 15115 Interlachen Drive in Leisure World. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Hospice (www.holycrosshealth.org/hospice).
