ROBERT LOWELL JACKSON (Age 82)
Robert Lowell Jackson, a retired Washington correspondent for the Los Angeles Times died on Monday, December 18, 2017, at his home in Silver Spring, MD. Mr. Jackson, who worked for the newspaper for more than 35 years in Washington, and before that in Los Angeles, specialized in investigative reporting – writing about Watergate, Abscom, the South Korean influence case and the Monica Lewinsky and Whitewater affairs. He shared a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the 1965 Watts riots in Los Angeles and the 1970 resignation of Abe Fortas from the Supreme Court – an effort that captured the national journalism award of Sigma Delta Chi. During his career Mr. Jackson won a Fullbright Scholarship to Copenhagen, Denmark in 1961 and a second Fullbright teaching grant to Russia in 2002. He is the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Jackson; father of Julie Jackson Somers (Jim), Patti Jackson Snowden (Steve) and Peggy Jackson Tyler (Steve); grandfather of Kelsey Tyler and Drew Tyler; brother of Jane Jackson Houser, Eloise Jackson Tremusini and late Richard Jackson.Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Tuesday, December 26, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
