
CATHARINE ANGELA HEINE (5/3/1927 – 3/31/2018)
Catharine Angela Heine, 90, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed on Saturday, March 30. The youngest of John and Edwina Reckert’s six children, she was born in Washington, DC on May 3, 1927. Catharine enjoyed a life-long interest in science and nature. She graduated from Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross in 1942 with a degree in Chemistry.
For a short time, Catherine was a chemist with the National Bureau of Standards. Then she devoted her full attention to caring for her husband, their six children and the busy household they shared. Generous with what little free time she had, Catharine volunteered for various organizations including: Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic School, Montgomery General Hospital and the Black Hill Regional Park Nature Center. Catharine was an original founding member of the Maryknights of the Rosensteel Council of the Knights of Columbus. She cooked, sewed, knitted, and crocheted; she was a gardener, a swimmer and an avid equestrienne.
Catherine is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Cornelius; her children Catharine, Margaret Anne, Cornelius, Jr., Mary, Theresa and Diana; grandchildren William, Beth, Luke and Shannon; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Harrison, Sabrina, William and Lincoln; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and close friends.
Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), on Tuesday, April 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. with family receiving friends from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization (alz.org).
