JOAN L. GASS (Age 84)
On Saturday, June 12, 2010, Joan Long Gass, native Washingtonian, resident of the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, former resident of Marian Assisted Living, former resident of Oxon Hill, passed away. She was a 1943 graduate of St. Cecili’s Academy and a 1947 graduate of Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross. She was a retired federal employee working with the Central Intelligence Agency in the early 1950’s. She was stationed in Tokyo in 1952. While in Japan, she explored the country and catalogued her trip with beautiful photographs. She married Ambrose Gass in 1967, and their union was blessed in 1970 with a daughter, Ann Marie. Mrs. Gass was a prodigious volunteer during her daughter”s early school years. While a resident at Marian Assisted Living, she was a faithful member of the chapel congregation. Survivors include a daughter, Sr. Ann Marie Gass, S.S.J. of Newark, NJ; two sisters, Mary Long Dolan and Alice Long Tumulty both of Silver Spring; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at Resurrection at Riderwood Village, 3160 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m., where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
