
R. Damian DuFour
R. Damian DuFour of Bethesda, MD died January 8, 2019 peacefully at home. He was born on October 10, 1939 in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Blessed Sacrament grade school, St. John’s College High School, and Mount Saint Mary’s College in 1963, Damian was also a member of the United States Marine Corp Reserves from 1958 to 1964.
In 1971, he married Margaret Egan in Newport, Rhode Island. Damian begin his career in the insurance industry in 1974, specializing in all aspects of life, health, retirement and pension programs. A leader in the industry, Damian was a member of the Leading Producers Roundtable and inducted in the Hall of Fame for the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters in 2005.
A lifelong racer, fisherman, boater, fixer-upper of houses, cars, boats, bikes and anything that needed repair, Damian brought great joy to all those who encountered him. He was devoted to his family and friends and always ready for the next adventure, especially with his grandchildren.
Damian’s life was also marked by his devotion to the Catholic Church and Catholic education. At various points, Damian served on the Board of Directors for Columbia Country Club, St. John’s College High School, as well as on the Executive Committee for the CYO of the Archdiocese of Washington and the Parish Council for the Church of the Little Flower. Damian served on Annual Giving Committees for Mater Dei School, Georgetown Prep and Stone Ridge. In 1993, Damian was invested as a Knight of Malta, and in 2002, he founded the Monsignor Kenneth Roeltgen Foundation. Damian was also a life member of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
Damian is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Maggi, his sons Justin (Nimi) and Alex (Christine) and daughter Egan (Billy) and nine grandchildren, who referred to him as Fluffy. He is also survived by his brother G. Maurice (Sue) of Bethesda, MD and Dolly Maurer (Otto) of Winnetka, IL. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Macdonald.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD on Tuesday, January 15 at 12 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Columbia Foundation, 7900 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 or Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.
