George Christopher Conley, 63, passed away on October 9, 2017 at his home in Wheaton, MD. Chris was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1972 and received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland. Chris was a Master Electrician in MD, VA and D.C. and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 26 for 29 years. Chris was a professional motorcycle racer and later, a professional motorcycle race official. He rode and officiated for WERA and AMA at many tracks including Summit Point, WV, Pocono Raceway in PA an Daytona Raceway in FLA. Chris was also a commercial hot air balloon pilot for many years and, in recent years, he flew balloons for ReMax.
Chris was predeceased by his parents, George F. Conley and Margaret A. Conley, of Wheaton, MD. He is survived by his sister, Anne Conley-Pitchell and her husband, Mark Pitchell, of Seaside Park, NJ, and by his brother, Patrick M. Conley, of Parkville, MD; as well as his nieces, CharlotteJane and Libby Burns, of Baltimore, MD, and his nephew, Lealand Burns, currently on active duty with the U.S. Army. Chris lived a full life on his terms but always remained a kind and gentle soul. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, 20901 (Valet Parking), Monday, October 16, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. and at St. Catherine LaBoure Church, Veirs Mill & Claridge Roads, Wheaton, MD, 20902 on Tuesday, October 17, from 10 to 11 am where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment National Memorial Park.
