
JIM THEODORE CHEAKALOS
Jim Theodore Cheakalos passed away Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 in Silver Spring, Maryland at 98 years old. Jim was born and raised in Vourvoura, Greece, a small mountain village on the outskirts of Tripoli, on April 20th, 1920, and moved to the United States in 1938, where he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II in the 10th Armored Division. In 1956 Jim married his wife, Barbara, and the two remained married and in love for 63 years. Jim was a businessman and entrepreneur, having several successful ventures in the hospitality industry, namely restaurants and hotels. Jim was always admirably gentle and patient with everyone he met. He also was known to have an extraordinary green-thumb and was able to grow anything he planted in the ground. Despite the difficulties he faced throughout his life, he always persevered. He was a loving father and grandfather who always looked out for his family who will dearly miss him. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, as well as his sons Theodore, Alex, and Taso; his legacy also lives on by his grandchildren Barbara and Demetri. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 701 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD, at 10:00 AM. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to further the construction of the Church.
