DR. VERA Z. BORKOVEC

Dr. Vera Z. Borkovec passed away in her sleep on September 11, 2014. She is preceded in death by her husband Alexej “Sasha” Borkovec and her sister Jarmila Vanecek. She is survived by her step-brother Mickey J (Ruth) Martinasek, nephews: George (Vicki) Vanecek, Frank (Karen) Vanecek, and Dushan (Mary) Martinasek, nieces: Vivien (Ed) Carroll, Danilla (Ron) Sawyer, and nine grand-nephews and grand-nieces. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 7730 Bradley Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences (SVU) Washington, DC Chapter (www.svu2000.org), Classical WETA (www.weta.org) , or National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (www.ncsml.org). Vera was a devoted professor, mentor, wife, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss her.
