George L.F. Seidl
“Opa”(Age 88)
Passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, surrounded by his family at his residence in Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of 61 years to Elizabeth Seidl; loving father of Frances E. (Brian ) Gamble, Barbara A. Bar-Haim and George M. Seidl. Grandfather of Lauren (Patrick ) Murphy, Alissa Aronstam, Jacklyn Gamble, Steven Gamble, Callie Seidl, Jacob Bar-Haim and Hailey Bar-Haim. Brother of Catherine Seidl Catlett.
George was the son of Katherine and George Seidl who were born in Bavaria, Germany and immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920’s and settled in Washington, D.C.George and his sister spent part of their childhood living in Germany during the depression years. They returned to the U.S. in 1935 eventually moving to Bethesda, MD. George went to school at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda and Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1947 and traveled around the world before being drafted into the Army in 1951 and served through 1953. When he returned home, he joined his father’s company, George Seidl and Sons, and together with his brother-in-law, Melvin Catlett, they built a successful masonry business. George was an extremely hard worker and the business flourished because of his diligent work ethic. He worked into his 70’s and apprenticed his own son, George, who is a talented mason in his own right. George enjoyed his retirement visiting family in Germany, as well as visiting with his children and grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Opa”. His devoted wife, Betty, was his rock and she has spent the last few years as his caregiver and driver.

Olga E. Featherstone (Age 100)
On Sunday, March 04, 2018, of Silver Spring, MD, Olga Featherstone passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late George Featherstone; mother of Deryck, Loraine, Roland (George Jr), Aubrey, and Keith (Charles); grandmother of thirteen and great-grandmother of three. Olga’s funeral service will be held on March 10th at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew, located at 15300 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20905. The viewing will be from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. The funeral service will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, all at the same location (Lutheran Church of St. Andrew). Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, located at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
Olga is already missed by all. “Love conquers death.”

Paul Hendrik Wietsma
Paul Hendrik Wietsma of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away peacefully in his home in the company of loving family members on March 5, following a courageous battle with an aggressive form of leukemia. He turned an eight-month prognosis into a three-year, hard-fought battle, which surprises precisely no one who knew him.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Paul was the older of two sons of the late Hendrik and Ruth (Donnelly) Wietsma. As a young man, he honored our nation by joining the United States Army and becoming a distinguished veteran in Vietnam. He heroically served his fallen military brothers by rescuing them by chopper under enemy fire.
Following his most honorable discharge, Paul later put his mathematical and design talents to work in architecture, home and building inspection, becoming the go-to resource within the Baltimore – DC metro community.
At home, Paul worked on his antique cars, cooked gourmet meals and welcomed any friend in from out of the rain. He was a lover of many deserving dogs, the seas with his first-mate Stan, his cherished granddaughters, and his meant-to-be of 35 years, Annie.
Paul is survived by his wife, Ann (DePaolo) Wietsma; brother Lawrence Wietsma; granddaughters, Diane and Megan Kalita; nieces Jennifer Kalita and Jessica (Wietsma) Dow; and nephew Christian Wietsma.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8 from 7 – 9 pm at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd W, Silver Spring, MD 20901 (Valet Parking). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday March 9 at the Church of the Resurrection 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville, MD 20866 at 11 AM, followed by interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the organization that advances the mission for which Paul fought so very hard: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) research.
James Joseph Dunn (Age 90)
On Monday, March 5, 2018, formerly of Greenbelt, MD. Beloved husband of the late Joan Marie Dunn; father of Sharon Patricia Boyd, Michael Joseph Dunn and Kevin P. (Susan) Dunn; grandfather of Brian Michael Boyd, Emily Michelle Smalley, David Michael Dunn, Keegan Patrick Dunn, Christopher Andrew Dunn, Kyle Michael Dunn, Megan Elizabeth Dunn and the late Joseph Allen Boyd; brother of John Dunn and Kathy O’Connor. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Stanley Kunda (Age 89)
On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, of Washington, DC. Beloved Uncle and Friend. He is survived by Niece Katherine Herbert Peters; Nephew, Louis K. Herbert; Grandnieces, Megan K. Peters and Molly B. Peters; Companion Jacqueline Harrell and the Family of the late Dolores Sutton.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, he lastly resided in Branchburg, New Jersey before his move to Washington, DC many years ago. His family, friends and his Country were center to his life. SSG Kunda served in Korea and Vietnam Conflicts during his Military career. He retired from the US Army in 1967. His commitment to duty and loyalty influenced all generations who knew him.
His love of Faith was prominent in his daily life. The Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family, Washington, DC provided his place of worship. He took pride in maintaining its grounds until his health would no longer allow him to do so.
Stanley was quick with a smile, a helping hand, he will be remembered for his generosity and love for all.
Stanley loved, and was loved by his predeceased long-time companion Dolores Sutton of Bridgewater, NJ, with whom he shared many years of family celebrations, dancing, and travel. Her family, Bill and Tricia Sutton, Diane and Tom Shultz, Rev. Janice and Robert Lynn have kept in close contact with Stanley in the years since her death in 2004. Stanley is remembered for his kindness to her grandchildren, Laura and Kara Sutton, Jennifer Garrett, Kimberly Avin and Katie Hunsinger.
Stanley was a great and kind man, who loved Dolores deeply. He will be missed and remembered by all.
Funeral service at Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family, 4250 Harewood Road NE, Washington, DC, on Thursday, March 8 at 11:30 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery to follow at 2:00 p.m. (please assemble at the administration building by 1:15 p.m.) Memorial contributions may be made to Shrine of the Holy Family or the Wounded Warriors Project.
