Richard Dale Parker, Sr.
Richard Dale Parker, Sr, 90, of Kensington and Glenwood, Maryland, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Canton, Georgia where he had lived for 16 years. Born April 25, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of James Allan Ireland Parker and Miriam Mettee Parker. After serving in the Army, he became a pharmacist and worked at his father’s pharmacy, Kensington Pharmacy, ultimately becoming a co-owner and was a President of the Maryland Pharmacy Association. Richard was a life long member of Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as Clerk of the Session. Richard held a strong belief in the foundations of Masonry, serving as Master of the Kensington Masonic Lodge, member of Scottish Rite, York Rite, Royal Arch Masons, and the Red Cross of Constantine. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Kodenski Parker and their daughters Susan Parker, Nancy Hicks (Robert), and Kathleen Waring (Brandon) of Atlanta, Georgia and Theresa Carr of Boulder, Colorado; son Richard Parker Jr (Kathleen) of Brookeville, Maryland and daughter Sharon Hobby (Harris) of Atlanta; grandchildren Richard “Rik” Parker III, Sean and Colleen Parker, Jessica and Emily Hicks, Lindsey and Claire Carr, Noah and Amelia Waring; great-granddaughters Calista and Aliya Parker and Everly Bostick; and sisters Elaine Burriss (Arnold, Maryland) and Diane Ayers (Mt. Airy, Maryland). Richard was pre-deceased by his parents and brothers James Parker, Jr, Charles Parker, and Laurence Parker. Richard’s visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 7:00-9:00PM (Valet Parking) at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. W., Silver Spring, Md 20901 and his funeral service will be on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 12:30PM at Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church, 10123 Connecticut Ave, Kensington, Md 20895. A private graveside service will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Md. A gathering will begin on Friday at 4:30PM at Rick and Kathy Parker’s home, 2320 Honeystone Way, Brookeville, Md 20833. Memorial donations may be sent to Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church.
