Gerald L. Cosgrove

Died peacefully December 31, 2018 in Brookeville, Maryland. He is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 65 years; daughter, Kathleen and son-in-law, James Shaffer, Cdr. USN Ret; sons, Patrick and Michael; grandchildren, Kelly and Seamus; and great-grandchildren, Loie and Ignatius. Born and raised in Frostburg, Maryland, Jerry served in the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1959. Jerry retired from Washington Gas in 1998 as Vice President of Labor Relations after 38 years of service. He was a member The Knights of Columbus, Rosensteel Council and American Legion Post 68. Funeral services at Saint John the Evangelist Old Church, 9700 Rosensteel Avenue, Silver Spring MD 20910, Monday, January 7 at 11 a.m. There will be a reception afterwards at the Knights of Columbus (upstairs hall) directly across the street from the church. JILL S. LAMBE (Age 85)

On Saturday, December 29, 2018, of Takoma Park, MD.  She is survived by her daughter Allison Appelquist (Dan) and grandchildren Alex and Leon.  A long-time member of Toastmasters International, Jill achieved the rank of Distinguished Toastmaster, and was a Past District Governor.  A Memorial Service will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, January 4, at 1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the World Wildlife Federation at wwf.org.

Entered eternal rest on Friday, December 28, 2018. She is survived by her beloved children, parents and brothers. Also survived by many friends and extended family. Jackie was a devoted mother and loving friend. She lived life to the fullest and brought sunshine to everyone’s life. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD. The family requests you bring your favorite picture, which will be displayed at the viewing. MARIE JOHNSON PIPER (Age 90)  

Our dearest Marie passed away on December 30, 2018 due to heart failure. She is survived by Leland, her loving husband of 59 years, her brother Joseph, three children Mark (Sharon) and Stuart Piper and Lorraine (Mark) Shaw, a granddaughter Allison Shaw and many dear friends and relatives. Marie grew up in Staunton, Virginia and graduated from Dunbarton College where she majored in chemistry. She brightened the lives of all those around her with her instinctive, welcoming good nature and generous heart. POTOSKY, Alice E.

Alice E. Potosky (Age 67)
On Saturday, December 29, 2018, of Alexandria, VA, from metastatic breast cancer. Beloved daughter of the late Melvin I. and Geraldine Potosky; sister of Melvin Potosky, Jr., the late Ann Sheridan, Mary Albert, Bryant Potosky and Arnie Potosky. Also survived by three sisters-in-law, eight nieces and nephews, one grand-niece and two grand-nephews. Alice has lived in the DC area her entire life. After graduating from Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington DC, she attended Ohio University. During her college years she went to work on a kibbutz in Israel, then traveled in the Middle East and Europe for a few months. Her love of travel stayed with her throughout her life. Alice returned to OU and got her BS in Journalism in 1976. Then went to India as an intern for United Press International. Upon her return, she joined the Peace Corps to serve in the Philippines. In 1994, she completed her MBA at American University. Alice had a long and varied career in marketing, public relations and publishing. She has a large loving family and countless friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a private home on January 12, 2018.
