On Thursday, January 3, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD. She was born in Vietnam. She moved to the US in her early life with her sister for a better life. Nhieu was a wonderful women and a hard worker. She was very loved always having many people looked to her as a mother figure to them. She is survived by her daughter Linh Pham her adopted son Anthony Nguyen, son in law Yasurie Keo And granddaughter Jaeda Keo. Elizabeth Ann Cashman Troy

Elizabeth Ann Cashman Troy, of Bethesda, Md., died peacefully, with family present, Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. Liz was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Owatonna, Minn., to James and Elizabeth Cashman. She had six brothers and one sister. She graduated from St. Teresa’s College in Winona, Minn., and received a master’s degree in library science Catholic University of America. It was in the library at CUA that she met her future husband, Thomas F. Troy, of Oakham, Mass. They married on Aug. 29, 1953. They and their children lived in Arlington, Leesburg, Hillsboro, and Fairfax, Va., and Rockville, Md,, before settling in Bethesda, Md., in 1972. Liz founded the school library at Holy Cross Parish School and was the librarian and a special education tutor for more than 25 years during which she passed along her love of children’s literature. After retirement she volunteered at Holy Cross in nocturnal adoration, on the pro-life committee, in religious education, and selling donuts in the social hall. Liz brought up her children with love and in devotion to the Catholic Church. She was an advocate for learning and reading, and preferred seeing children play games rather than watch television. She encouraged living simply, which included reusing things and recycling before it was popular. The family traveled often to visit relatives in Minnesota and Massachusetts, and were frequent visitors to museums, historic locations, and Harpers Ferry, W.Va. She was a volunteer and longtime board member of Centro Tepeyac Silver Spring Women’s Center, where she founded Family Night Bingo. During retirement, Liz and Tom’s home, which they shared with their eldest daughter, the late Mary Elizabeth Troy, was a place of family get-togethers, sing-alongs, the annual St. Patrick’s Day party, and spirited political conversations.

Liz is survived by her children, sons Thomas (Anne) and James (Helen), daughters Margaret (Mark) Zimmerman, Catherine (Jesse) Franklin; Ann (Edgar) Pottker, Ellen (Michael) Bouchard, and Jane (David) Trebilcock; grandchildren Patrick, Kathryn, Marie, Anna, Sophia, Molly, Andrew, Thomas, Andria, James, Jesse, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Michael, Matthew, Nora, Timothy, Colleen, Jeanne, Claire, Kevin, Peter, and Margaret; great-grandchildren Alice, Clara, Evan, Sara, James, Clare, Patrick, and Beatrice; sister, Marge Gallagher; sisters-in-law, Abbey, Irma, Bette, Billie and Evie, and many nieces and nephews. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, daughter, Mary, and her brothers Bill, Vince, Jack, Jimmy, Pat and Joe.  

The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, at home, 6101 Rudyard Dr., Bethesda, Md., with a prayer service at 4 p.m. The funeral is 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Church, 4900 Strathmore Ave., Garrett Park, Md., followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Md. DUFOUR, R. Damian

R. Damian DuFour

R. Damian DuFour of Bethesda, MD died January 8, 2019 peacefully at home. He was born on October 10, 1939 in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Blessed Sacrament grade school, St. John’s College High School, and Mount Saint Mary’s College in 1963, Damian was also a member of the United States Marine Corp Reserves from 1958 to 1964.

In 1971, he married Margaret Egan in Newport, Rhode Island. Damian begin his career in the insurance industry in 1974, specializing in all aspects of life, health, retirement and pension programs. A leader in the industry, Damian was a member of the Leading Producers Roundtable and inducted in the Hall of Fame for the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters in 2005.

A lifelong racer, fisherman, boater, fixer-upper of houses, cars, boats, bikes and anything that needed repair, Damian brought great joy to all those who encountered him. He was devoted to his family and friends and always ready for the next adventure, especially with his grandchildren.

Damian’s life was also marked by his devotion to the Catholic Church and Catholic education. At various points, Damian served on the Board of Directors for Columbia Country Club, St. John’s College High School, as well as on the Executive Committee for the CYO of the Archdiocese of Washington and the Parish Council for the Church of the Little Flower. Damian served on Annual Giving Committees for Mater Dei School, Georgetown Prep and Stone Ridge. In 1993, Damian was invested as a Knight of Malta, and in 2002, he founded the Monsignor Kenneth Roeltgen Foundation. Damian was also a life member of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

Damian is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Maggi, his sons Justin (Nimi) and Alex (Christine) and daughter Egan (Billy) and nine grandchildren, who referred to him as Fluffy. He is also survived by his brother G. Maurice (Sue) of Bethesda, MD and Dolly Maurer (Otto) of Winnetka, IL. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Macdonald.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD on Tuesday, January 15 at 12 p.m.  Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Columbia Foundation, 7900 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 or Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.

Rene Humberto Chorro

Rene Humberto Chorro was born on December 21, 1946 in Zacatecoluca, El Salvador.  Rene came from a loving family, his father Manuel, his mother Graciela, his two older brothers Arturo and Gerardo, his older sister Rosa Emma, and his younger sister Graciela.  Rene dreamt about moving to the United States and at the age of 24, he finally moved to the United States where he met his beautiful wife, Lydia.  They fell madly in love and married in 1972 in Puerto Rico.  The couple had three boys – Sergio, Gerardo and Richard.  Rene was a sweet loving father and really cared about his family.  The Chorro’s have 4 grandchildren – Emilio, Tatiana, Manuel and Mateo.  Rene loved to draw, listen to music, dance, the beach, and watching soccer matches.  Rene will be forever loved and missed.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expression of love, support, and kindness shown to them during this moment of bereavement.

RINN, Mary Patricia “Pat”

“Pat”

Pat died peacefully at home January 6 after a two year struggle with Hepato-Renal Syndrome. Born in 1940 in Harrisburg, PA, Pat lived in Carnegie, PA until she married her husband, David Rinn, in 1963.  Pat graduated from the Catholic University of America in 1963, with a BS in Physics.  She later earned a Master’s  in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.  She became a career employee for the Federal Communications Commission in 1978, where she rose steadily to become Deputy CIO until her retirement in 2014. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dave, and five children, son David Rinn (Janet) of Fall City, WA, daughter Cathy Rinn of Bethesda, MD, Beth Ericsson (Tom) of Point of Rocks, MD, daughter Maureen Simoni (Bill) of Gonzales, LA, and daughter Tricia Engel (Matt) of Monrovia, MD; and five grandchildren, Christopher and Alessandra Simoni, and Maddie, Ellie, and Abby Engel.  She is also survived by three brothers, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and hundreds of friends who will all miss her dearly. She was a kind, generous, and selfless person who touched the hearts of everyone she met. We are all blessed to have known her.Family and friends will be received at Church of the Resurrection, 3315 Greencastle Road in Burtonsville, MD on Friday, January 11 from 1 to 2 pm, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to Mary of Nazareth Catholic School in Darnestown, MD, a school very close to Pat’s heart.

Rosa Martha Moreno, AKA Mami, Machi, Abuela, Abuelita, Rosita, and Rosi, widowed wife of Francisco Jesus Moreno, survived by her daughters Mirna Martinez, Martha Victoria Luna, and Marlene Caridad Moreno, son Francisco Melanio Moreno; her siblings Dalia, Antonia (Toñi), Paula (Pive) and Antonio (Pachy) De La Torre Serrano; daughter-in law Vivian Ann Moreno; 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Rosi was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was loved by every person that came in contact with her. She was an excellent example to all of us of what a loving, gentle, kindhearted, generous, kind, joyful, patient, and above all what a selfless person is. She was our rock and gave us all strength. Many will remember her warm smile, her joyous laugh, all the kisses she smothered us with, and especially the amazing food she prepared us with so much love which made it the best food ever tasted. Our family was truly blessed to have a true angel on earth and will be our angel in heaven who will now look over us from heaven. She left her mark on everyone, and we are all better for knowing her! Our family has suffered a tremendous loss and will forever be affected by her death. We will always love you, miss you, and will forever keep you in our hearts. God bless you and may you rest in peace. She was a mortgage underwriter for various financial institutions in the DC area. Nancy was predeceased by brothers, John, Jimmy and Danny. She is survived by siblings, Kevin, Matt, Mary, Jerry (Marsha), Michael (Lisa) and nieces and nephews, Chris (Danielle), Erin (Anthony), Matthew, Lauren (Michael), Brittany (Tony), Emily and Maggie.
