CLAMPITT, Jr. William Henry

CLAMPITT, William Henry Jr.

October 17, 1931 — October 29, 2018

Bill Clampitt passed away peacefully on October 29, 2018 at age 87.  He was a lifelong Washingtonian, he spent 63 years in his Chevy Chase home with its bountiful vegetable garden that he tended every year, including this spring.

Bill was raised by his parents William H. Clampitt Sr. and Amy Norton Clampitt in NW DC.  After graduation from the University of Maryland and his Air Force service in Alaska, he joined his father and brother John in the family insurance business.

In his youth, being a devout Christian and dedicated to his faith, Bill worshipped at Petworth Baptist Church, along with his family and friends. It was at the church where he met Mary Frances O’Briant, a beautiful young woman who had just moved to town. They married in 1955 and remained active members of that congregation as it eventually became Montgomery Hills Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD.  After retirement, Bill continued to serve his church family, in the offices and around the facilities. For a lifetime, Bill unselfishly devoted his love, thoughts, time and efforts to his wife, children, grandkids and great grandchildren.

His beloved wife Mary passed in 2010. Bill is survived by his brothers John (Jean) and Richard (late wife Barbara); and his children Russell, Henry, Amy Hawthorne, and James and their spouses.  He is also survived by nine loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call at Montgomery Hills Baptist Church, 9727 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20910, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m. A private family burial will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Montgomery Hills Baptist Church, 9727 Georgia Ave. Silver Spring, MD.  20910.
