WOFSY, Cyril S.

CYRIL S. WOFSY  (Age 93)

Cyril (Cy) Wofsy passed way peacefully in his sleep on November 5, 2018 at Aspenwood Senior Living Community in Silver spring, MD where he was a resident. Cy is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice, in May 2008.

Cy was born Feb 17, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Louis and Bella (Meyerson)Wofsy. He married Beatrice DiMaio on March 12, 1948.  The couple lived in Wheaton and Rockville, MD area for 30 years where they raised their two sons.

Cy served in WWII in the Army Air Corp. He was a POW, Purple Heart recipient, and a double leg amputee from the war.  He attended Rutgers for Law School. The majority of his career was as a lawyer for the Federal Government with Federal Power Commission. Upon his retirement the couple moved to Bradenton, FL where they lived for 18 years, returning to Rockville MD in 2006.  Mr. Wofsy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota, FL.

 He is survived by his two sons, Louis (Sharron) Wofsy of Burke, VA., Paul (Kathie) Wofsy of Rockville, MD, three granddaughters, Michelle (Eric) Miller, and Denise (Michael) Kopecky, both of Chantilly, VA and Kylie Wofsy of Gaithersburg, MD and four great- grandchildren, his brother Norman of MI, a niece, Eve Graber of FL and nephew, Noah of Washington DC.

Arrangements will be handled by Collins Funeral Home, University Blvd. in Silver Spring, MD.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on, Tuesday, November 13th at 1PM.  Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

RIENZO, Francis X.

FRANCIS X. RIENZO (age 85)

On Saturday, November 3, 2018. Francis X. Rienzo was the Director of Athletics at Georgetown University from 1972 to 1999. During his tenure, Georgetown Athletics experienced unparalleled success and expansion, and by 1995 the number of varsity sports had grown from 11 to 26. Frank played a pivotal role in the creation of the Big East Conference, and Georgetown’s success in the Big East and nationally catapulted the University into the national spotlight. Frank arrived at Georgetown University in 1969 as Track Coach before transitioning to Director of Athletics in 1972. His positive influence and leadership reached thousands of students, faculty, staff, friends, and family.

Frank was the beloved husband of the late Joan T. Rienzo; father of Francis J. Rienzo, Teresa Paquette, Cecilia Castiello and Matthew Rienzo; grandfather of Joan Castiello, Joseph Paquette, Katie Castiello, Frank Paquette, Eddie Paquette, Anthony Castiello, Matthew Rienzo, Cecilia Paquette, Grace Rienzo, Xavier Rienzo, Luke Rienzo, Lila Rienzo, Lucy Paquette, Nico Rienzo, Reese Rienzo and Holly Rienzo; brother of Mary Elizabeth Noll, Ignatius, Gregory, Bernadette, and the late John and Aloysius Rienzo.

LEAHY, Richard C.

RICHARD C. LEAHY

Richard C. “Papa” Leahy, family man, scholar, culinary malcontent, lover of books, egg fu young and coffee, died peacefully on October 31, 2018 on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. His greatest joy was to gather family and friends around a table, introduce a topic for discussion, take the most contrarian position and then let the fireworks begin.  Richard was born on June 11,1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Ethel and James Leahy. He attended Cretin High School then spent 7 years at the St. Paul Seminary. On April 15, 1961, Richard married Ann Maloney of Brighton, MA and moved to Washington, DC. Richard began his professional life at Minnesota Mutual. In 1975, he launched the Richard Leahy Corporation, which he ran successfully until he sold it in 1986.  In 1991, along with wife Ann and friend Sister Damon, Richard turned his attention to raising money to build a university to educate the rural poor in Carmen Pampa, Bolivia. Through his tireless efforts and powers of persuasion, the college became a reality and just celebrated its 25th Anniversary.  Papa’s eleven grandchildren Damon, Lucy, Eliza, Ellen, Annie, Daisy, Matt, Cassidy, Tony, Joe and Nora, his four children Molly, Tony, Kate and Mark and their spouses Joe, Reenie, Greg and Nadine and his wife Ann will miss the adventures and conversations they shared with him. Howard Alberto Del Aguila

It is with great sadness that the family of Howard Alberto Del Aguila announces his passing after battling cancer on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at the age of 45 years. Howard will be lovingly remembered by his parents Ernesto Jr. and Sylvia, and by his brother Ernesto III and fiancé Paula. Howard will also be forever remembered by extended family and dear friends.

Howard was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He was passionate about the Redskins and all things Star Wars. He was a kind and gentle person and always prioritized his family.

Viewings will be held on Sunday, November 4, between 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd W, Silver Spring, MD 20901.

A Funeral Service in memory of Howard will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 805 Wayne Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910, with Monsignor Eddie Tolentino presiding.
