PREBILIC, Anne Mae

Anne Mae Prebilic, 88 years

Anna Mae Prebilic (nee Conlon), known to family and friends as Anne, joined our Heavenly Father on February 2, 2018, on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

Anne was born in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 1929. She was the only daughter of Michael and Mae Conlon and the third child of four. An independent young woman, Anne earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Dunbarton College of Holy Cross in Washington, DC, in 1951. She taught elementary school following college and later took a government job working as an artist on topographical maps. In her twenties, Anne also became a lead dancer at Arthur Murray Dance Studios and was offered a commissioned position in New York City. She declined that offer to keep her independence and the regular income of her government job. Anne loved art and became a skilled artist. Among her works, she created a detailed and intricate portrait of Jesus, which she always treasured and recently framed.

In 1956, Anne married Michael Joseph Prebilic, Jr, a World War Two veteran. They started a family while living in Washington, DC, and in the early days they had 7 children under the age of 6 including two sets of twins. In 1967, the family moved to a home on a one-acre lot near Gaithersburg, Maryland. They raised their 8 children Roman Catholic, which included a strong sense of self-discipline, as well as the expectation to be kind to one another. Anne stayed a devoted full-time housewife until her youngest daughter was in elementary school. She then trained in the medical field and became employed as a House Unit Clerk in the Surgical Unit at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Maryland, remaining there for 25 years before retiring at 77 years of age. Anne lived in the family home in Gaithersburg for over 50 years, mowing the lawn and taking care of the house, while volunteering for her parish and keeping up with her grandchildren as a retiree, until she transitioned at the age of 88.

Anne will be dearly missed by all her family including her eight children: Michael, Michelle (Gordon) Reese, Mark, Christine (Manuel) Miranda, Laureen, Paul (Tunde), Kenneth, and Claire (Michael) Luton; her thirteen grandchildren: Brianna, Daria, Maria (David) Coit, Carlynne, Gavin, Jacqueline, Adrienne, Dustin (Kelsey) O’Brien, Daniel, Keith, Elizabeth (Michael) Hays, Kristina, and Anthony; her three great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Declan, and Owen Coit; and her step-granddaughter: Sierra (Luis) Hernandez and their son Benjamin. Anne’s husband and her three brothers John, Michael, and Joseph precede her in death.

A celebration of Anne’s life will begin with a visitation service on Friday February 9, 2018, from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm, at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD. (Valet Parking)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at her parish, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 6701 Muncaster Mill Rd., Derwood, MD, on Saturday February 10, 2018, at 11:00 am with Father John Dillon as the main celebrant. Burial will occur immediately after the funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. She will be buried next to her husband.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Montgomery Hospice in addition to Family and Nursing Care for their support in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood, Maryland.
