R. Michael McCullough
Of Bethesda, MD passed away on February 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Mike was the beloved husband of 55 years of Frances (nee Kelly); loving father of Jeanne McCullough, Michael McCullough (Helen); Colleen Laughlin (Joseph); Brian McCullough; Kathleen Bullock (Albert); Christopher McCullough; Brendan McCullough (Leigh); brother of Jeanne Zabel (the late Victor), Vincent McCullough (Catherine) and Edward McCullough; brother in law of Kathleen Baldwin (Richard); and son to the late Jerome and Sara (nee Fitzsimmons) McCullough; grandfather “Pops” of Paige Alvarez, Briana Alvarez, Trey Alvarez; Matthew McCullough; Connor Laughlin, Meaghan Laughlin, Patrick Laughlin, Ryan Laughlin, Joseph Laughlin; Albert Bullock, Seamus Bullock; Molly McCullough and Andrew McCullough. Mike is also survived by three nephews and two nieces.
Born in Springfield, OH in 1938, Mike graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1957 and graduated from the University of Detroit in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduating Mike and Frances married and moved to Syracuse, NY where Mike worked for General Electric Co. before relocating to Maryland in 1963. Mike joined the international consulting firm Booz, Allen and Hamilton, Inc. in 1965, became a partner in 1971 and a Managing Partner of the Technology Center in 1978. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman from 1984-1992 and as Senior Chairman from 1992-1996.
From 1996-2015 Mike pursued other business interests and served on the boards of a number of companies including Caterair International and Interstate Hotels, Towers Watson & Co, Capital Auto Real Estate Investment Trust, Potomac Realty Corp, and Charles E. Smith Realty Investment Trust. Additionally he served as President of the Professional Services Council from 1982-1985 and served on the advisory boards of the Wolf Trap Foundation, Suburban Hospital Foundation, and the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.
Above all, Mike valued his faith and family, was an avid golfer, ardent sports fan and dedicated reader of history. In recent years he engaged in portrait drawing. Mike looked forward most to spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, 6900 River Rd. Bethesda, MD 20817 Friday February 16, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 17, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Interment Private.
