BERNARD JOSEPH MOORE (Age 91)
On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of 65 years of Sarah Frances Moore; father of Brian (Sally) Moore and Bernice (Ray) Weise; grandfather of Kelly Moore Nowottnick, Colleen Eccles, Alexander Moore, and Paul Weise. He is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Mary Moore, and his sister, Elizabeth Schnieder. Mr. Moore was a native of NYC. After graduating Sts. Peter and Paul School and James Monroe High School in the Bronx, he served in the 104th Infantry, the Timberwolf Division. Tech Sergeant Moore earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with Cluster during combat in France and Holland. He lead three platoons during the Timberwolf’s continuous combat assault record (195 consecutive days) which culminated in the crossing of the Indie River into Germany. Honorable discharge was followed by the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and 40 years with Hilton Hotels. Prior to retirement as the first manager of the Washington Hilton Towers, he spent 25 years at the Waldorf Astoria Towers. Throughout his career he was befriended by world leaders, dignitaries and celebrities alike. He was a member of the Holy Name Society; the Sons of St. Patrick; the American Legion; and the DAV. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Entombment with Military Honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
