WILLIAM “BILL” JOHN MARR
With a heavy heart, the family of William John Marr (Bill), age 90, share the news of his passing on Aug 12, 2019.
William was born in 1929 in Aberdeen, Washington State, and grew up as the oldest of 5 boys. His parents, William Otis and Retta Arlitta, predeceased him as did two brothers Lawrence and Eugene and his wife Virginia. Bill grew up in Washington and was the first in his family to graduate from college at the former College of Puget Sound. After college Bill joined the United States Air Force and began his life time journey around the world. Stationed in New York he met and married the love of his life, Virginia, and their family grew throughout their travels as they added two daughters and one son. By 1977 he retired as a Colonel in the USAF, having served throughout the United States and in England. He continued working in a civilian capacity. He and Virginia fulfilled a dream to live on the water near Annapolis, Maryland. They continued their traveling throughout the world on cruises to Europe, Asia, Australia, Tahiti, Antarctica, the Caribbean, Alaska, and throughout the US, sometimes even taking the children and grandchildren along. The final move from their beloved waterfront view was to the Riderwood Village in Silver Spring, Maryland. There they made new friends, continued gardening, and taking trips.
Virginia passed away in 2018 after a short illness. Bill finally gave up his struggle against Alzheimer’s and left us in 2019.
Bill is survived by his three children, Carey (Randy) McDaniel, William E. (Cynthia) Marr, and Rebecca (Brian) Osborne, six granddaughters Shannon, Allison, Jessica, Emily, Isabelle, and Hannah, two brothers Donald and Thomas, along with many nieces and nephews.
Per his request Bill will be interred next to Virginia in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
