Maureen Ann Murphy

Maureen Ann Murphy (Age 62), of Leisure World, MD, passed away on Sunday, December 02, 2018.  Beloved mother of Kevin Davis Robinson and Kelly Marie Robinson, Sister of Shawn J. Murphy and the late Thomas N. Murphy.  Also survived by Sister-in-law Hilary Murphy, Daughter-in-law Adriana Robinson and soon to be Son-in-law Kevin McAteer. Services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1001 Brighton Dam Road, Brookeville, MD on Saturday, December 15th at 11AM.  Please join our family in wearing purple as a celebration of her life and favorite color.  Private interment at a later date. MICHAEL D. COX
We celebrate the memory and mourn the loss of Michael D. Cox who passed at the age of 68 on Monday, December 3, 2018 from complications of multiple myeloma. Cox was an exacting Facilities Manager Contractor for the U.S. Coast Guard who retired after over 20 years with Navy Federal Credit Union. He took immense pride in his job and his historic home in Silver Spring, Maryland. Mike, who grew up in the Chicago area, was preceded in death by his father, Duane Cox, and mother, Collette Cox, who passed only last July. He is mourned by his 38 year partner and husband, Jim Thompson and his extended family, sister, Susan Fletcher from Marion, Iowa, her husband, Michael Fletcher and their two children, Matthew Fletcher and Elizabeth McDougal, California cousins, Bradley, Michael, and Barbara Zaller, as well as great-nephew, Cameron Zaller, and Maryland godchildren, Colleen and Lindsay Kaufman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home at 500 University Boulevard West in Silver Spring, MD 20901, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.

Also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Scapecchi served in the Italian military. DIANE MELANIE DAVIS GERBER

Diane M. Davis Gerber, age 62, died unexpectedly on December 5, 2018 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  A third generation Washingtonian, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband Christopher D. Gerber; five siblings, Dorothy A. Davis, James A. Davis, III (Patty), Gregory P. Davis (Kelli), Margaret E. Davis, and Michael T. Davis (Devon).  She also leaves her mother-in-law Jeanne M. Gerber, sister-in-law Lynn J. Davis (Peter), and brother-in-law Michael J. Gerber (Melanie).  She was predeceased by her sister Deborah Davis; her father James A. Davis, her brother Kenneth M. Davis, and her mother Margaret H. Davis.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends.

She attended Blessed Sacrament School, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, University of Oregon, and The George Washington University.  She worked over 34 years as an Environmental Protection Specialist for EPA, Montgomery County, and District of Columbia.  Her passions included ornithology, birdwatching, love and care of dogs, and teaching others about the environment.  She was named employee of the year in Montgomery County for her work teaching elementary school students what natural wonders were right in their own backyards and local streams.  She also enjoyed leisure travel – especially to Chincoteague, VA, care for the elderly, and horseback riding.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20015 on Thursday December 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a receiving reception in the Parish Center.  Burial private.  In lieu of flowers, and to fulfill Diane’s wishes, please make a donation in her memory (Diane M Davis) to either The Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY or the Humane Society of the United States – Emergency Animal Rescue Fund, Washington, DC.

FALES, John Jr.

JOHN FALES, Jr. 

John Fales, Jr., age 78, of Silver Spring MD, passed peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018. A proud Marine, he served from 1957-1963 and 1966-1967. Blinded in Vietnam, he retired from the Marine Corps, and continued his service as a leader in the veteran’s community. John co-founded and led the Blinded American Veterans Foundation (BAVF) and wrote a newspaper column, Sgt. Shaft. He ensured that service members, veterans and their families received support earned through service to country. John retired from the Corporation for National and Community Service in 2006. Military decorations include the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. Other awards include the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service from the Freedom’s Foundation and the Outstanding Handicapped Federal Employee. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Heea Vazirani-Fales; daughters Denise Fales Preskitt, Deepika Harris, Monika Vazirani, Jyotika Vazirani-Ali (Nizam Ali); son Ashish Vazirani (Deborah); grandchildren Christine, Grant, Victor, Benjamin, Isabella and Tariq; brother Frank and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by daughter Reetika and grandson Jehan, and siblings Bill, Barbara and Robert. Friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, Friday, December 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church, 11600 Kemp Mill Road, Silver Spring, MD. MONTE MILTON RICHARDSON

Monte Milton Richardson, 66, of Odenton, Maryland passed away on Nov 29, 2018 in his home, surrounded by family and friends. Though leaving us at a tender age, Monte lived every moment with integrity, grace, loyalty, and love. Growing up in Rockville, graduating from Robert E Peary High School in 1970, to playing hockey all around the DC area from Baltimore to Wheaton to DC, and eventually Piney Orchard with what became the HNA Men’s hockey league. A loyal Washington Capitals fan, Monte shared his love and Rocked the Red with family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to join him for decades of games. His love for maps and exploring took him to nearly every US state and countless sandy beaches throughout his life, especially Ocean City, MD where he built many additional friendships, shared countless sunsets, and participated in the Penguin Swim benefiting Atlantic General Hospital year after year. Monte was always a giving person, sharing his earnings with such charities as Children’s National Medical Center, The Salvation Army, multiple Military charities and Meals on Wheels even in his passing. He has always been a selfless soul while mentoring many to do the same. A proud 3rd generation Steamfitter and longtime Local 602 brother, he retired in MARCH 2018 after 20 years with WE Bowers, and previous years with RM Thornton. Missed by so many, Monte is survived by his sisters Peggy Ann Foss  and Patti Jo Richardson, nephew Monte Foss with wife Tamitra and children Nicklas and Aria, nephews Jason and Travis Foss, and his best friend and the son he never had Justin Hurley.Visitation begins at 12 PM with funeral service at 1 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd.West, Silver Spring, MD. Interment will immediately follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Rd., Rockville, MD 20853.

On Sunday, December 2, 2018, of Silver Spring, MD. Rest in Peace our dear Adelaida Velasquez (Addie), who joined our creator on Sunday, December 2, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Marvin Velasquez in Silver Spring, MD, her children: Lorna B. Docdoc, Alberto Bacareza, Gil Bacareza , Zenaida B.Cabillon, Joel Bacareza, Teresita B. Sadomia, Alfonso Bacareza, and Sherilyn B.Signo and 35 grandchildren in the Philippines. Her closest friend Marlyn Intoy and other friends stood by her side since her cancer became worst in May 2014 which actually started in 2003. Addie was born in the Province of Bohol, Philippines to parents Aquilino Vidal and Eufrosina Dospueblos . She had been an active parishioner/ member of the Fil Ministry of St. Michael/ Cebu Sinulog Dancers of MWDC, gracing several charity and religious events in the US capital region. She was more popularly known as the Lead dancer of the annual SANTO NINO Sinulog Events at various Santo Nino Festivals at St. Michael Church in Silver Spring, MD, St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg, MD., St Mary’s in Rockville , MD, the Shrine of St Jude in Rockville, MD, Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington D.C. etc. Relatives and friends may call at  Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, December 9, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. RUDZKI, Barbara May

BARBARA MAY RUDZKI (age 77)

On Sunday, December 2, 2018 Barbara Rudzki of Kensington, MD died peacefully at home. Born on September 3, 1941, beloved daughter of Alice and Otto May she was raised on Long Island and in Chicago. She was an only child and fell in love with books at an early age. Her undergraduate studies at Oberlin lead to a Master’s in English at Northwestern. She met her husband in Chicago when they were introduced by one of his patient’s while in his residency for internal medicine. The two fell in love and moved to Washington to begin their life as she began a career in teaching English at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC. A loving mother, wife, and grandmother, a teacher, and a friend will be deeply missed by her husband Cesar and her son J.R. of Bethesda, his wife Anne Brooks Rudzki and their children Bobby, Juliet, and Lucy. Private graveside service will be held at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, Clarksburg, MD.
