FRANK P. ROSSOMONDO, JR. (Age 90)
Born September 11, 1927 to Phyllis & Frank Rossomondo, Sr. in Hackensack NJ. Passed away peacefully March 29, 2018 in Bethesda MD.
Frank’s service to his country started when he served in the US Army (1945 – 1946). He worked as a Draftsman in the US Navy Department (1946 – 1947). He then attended and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park (1948 – 1952) majoring in Geography, Foreign Affairs and Chemistry. In 1953 he began working at the Central Intelligence Agency and retired as the Chief of The CIA’s Geographic Research Division in 1987. While working at the CIA, he furthered his education with graduate studies at American University, McGill University and Harvard University. He also was awarded the Agency’s Career Intelligence Medal along with other honors and distinctions.
Frank was an amazing person who’s strong, kind and loving influence made a tremendous difference for so many people. He participated and led activities for all five of his children, specifically with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. He was an active Scout leader in one form or another for almost 50 years serving as a Scoutmaster on a local level to being the Chairman for the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS). He received numerous awards for his leadership with the Scouts including recognition from Pope John Paul II for his leadership of the NCCS, the Silver Saint George Emblem and the Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting Saint Ann Medal.
Frank was dedicated to his Family, Country, Church, and Community and is survived by his wife of 65 years Jeanne; five children, Bob Rossomondo (Lisa), Carol Hanlon (Tom), Tom Rossomondo (Christine), Larry Rossomondo (Lorie), and Kathy Kelly (Bart); sixteen grandchildren, Billy Rossomondo, Natalie Rossomondo, Matt Rossomondo (Casey), John Rossomondo, TJ Rossomondo, Jack Hanlon (fiancé Allison Baden), Danny Rossomondo, Katie Rossomondo, Katherine Hanlon, Christina Rossomondo, Caroline Hanlon, Bobby Hanlon, Allison Rossomondo, Annie Kelly, Aileen Kelly, and Drew Kelly; and 2 sisters, Patricia Bulla and Judy Doucette; also survived by many loving nephews and nieces and friends.
Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Thursday, April 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Shrine of St. Jude, 12701 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD, on Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, on Monday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, www.nccs-bsa.org or to The Shrine of Saint Jude, Rockville MD at www.shrinestjude.org.
