Megan Nicole Ingram (Age 32)

On Saturday, September 16, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved mother of Christopher Ingram; daughter of John and and the late Danielle Ingram; step-daughter of Denise Ingram; grand- daughter of Ethel Ingram; sister of Sonia Santiago and Brianna Ingram; step-sister of Shane Hadley, God daughter of Dimitrios Kotsiras; Forever remembered by her loving family. Celebration of life will be celebrated at Upper Seneca Baptist Church, 23401 Davis Mill Rd, Germantown, MD 20876, on Saturday September 23. PRIVATE Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.

HASKELL, WILLIAM

HASKELL William Haskell (Age 72) 1st Lt USMC (Ret.) On Sunday, September 17, 2017, of Washington, DC after a short illness. Bill Haskell was born June 7, 1945 in Washington, DC to the late Albert Joseph Haskell and Esther Knudsen Haskell. Bill was an officer in the United States Marine Corps, having joined at the height of the Vietnam War. He was in command of a Marine Corps platoon in Vietnam on March 9, 1969 when they encountered a numerically superior NVA unit. The marines soundly defeated the NVA unit while sustaining no casualties themselves. Bill received the Silver Star for his leadership and courage during the battle. The battle received notice on the front page of the Washington Post. Bill had also received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Combat “V” device, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with “V” device. On May 25 1969, Bill was wounded in a huge battle near Mutter Ridge. Colonel Oliver North wrote about Bill in his book One More Mission. The first chapter titled “Kilo One Actual is Down” described Bill’s wounding in detail. Colonel North described Bill as one of the best Marine Corps officers and credited him with teaching him combat skills during the war. Bill retired from the marines and went to work for HR Block as a district manager. After a short time, he purchased his own HR Block franchises in Upper Marlboro, MD and Dunkirk, MD. After retiring, Bill volunteered preparing taxes for service members. Larry, Bill’s brother, recalls a vivid memory when a large group of enlisted marines and officers walking down the sidewalk on the way to visit Bill recovering from his wounds in 1969. This was at a time when officer-enlisted conflicts were reported regularly in the newspaper. This combined group of marines had gone out of their way to visit him at home. They told stories of Bill’s leadership in battle and reported he would frequently take point himself, never asking his men to do anything he would not do himself. He stayed in shape and ran in the Marine Corps marathon every year. He always told his family that he would run in the marathon on his 100th birthday. No one doubted that would happen. On July 31, he was actively training for the marathon but on August 1, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His decline was rapid. He was unable to drink or eat other than tiny amounts by mid-August. Absent any nutrition, he started to wither away. At one point, he was visited by marine officers who had flown in from around the country and even overseas. They described Bill to hospital staff as a real American hero who had saved lives in combat. He was cheated by cancer out of his remaining 28 years and the marathons that he will not be running after all. He is survived by his son, Zach Haskell of Upper Marlboro, MD and a brother, Larry of Mt Pleasant, SC. Also survived by nieces, Laura Haskell and Monica Haskell Sanders and nephew, Joe Haskell. All will miss him terribly. Graveside service and interment with full military honors will be celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. William Henry Mautz III (Age 79)

On Friday, August 11, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved husband of Mildred E.  Mautz; father of Melissa S. McHarg (James); grandfather of Joshua, Justin and Katherine McHarg;  brother of Martha Koehler.   Memorial Service will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 818 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD, 20901 on Sunday, October 15th,  at 3 pm.  Interment Private. LEWIS  RAY SANFORD (Age 89)

On Thursday, September 14, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved husband of the late Claire Shields Sanford; father of Lewis R. (Peg) Sanford, Jr. and Terry Sanford (Jeff) Hinds; grandfather of Lauren and Amanda, Kelley (Mike) and Matt, Marc (Jennie) and Kate (Chris); great-grandfather of Stella and Declan; brother of Earl (Joann) and Grady (Marty) Sanford.  Relatives and friends may call at  Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), on Tuesday, September 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a brief service at 3 p.m.  Private Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

NORA LEE CLODFELTER COOPER

Nora Lee Clodfelter Cooper, 92 of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

Born February 13, 1925 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late William Flake Clodfelter and Bessie Lee Coghill Clodfelter.

She was educated in the Washington, DC schools and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury. She was a former member of Rockville Christian Church, Rockville, MD where she taught Sunday School.

In addition to her parents, her husband, William Dewey Cooper whom she married July 17, 1948 preceded her in death on December 10, 2003, a daughter, Nancy L. Schroeder on June 20, 2011 and a sister, Dorothy McHenry.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Joyce A. Price and husband Greg of Wilmington and Jenifer D. Brown and husband Dale of Salisbury; son-in-law, Alan Schroeder of Salisbury; six grandchildren, David Knowles, Leah Hamm and husband Clif, Gregory Price, Jr. and wife Jamie, Casey Price, Vince Brown and wife Samantha, Peter Brown, and 3 great-grandchildren, Skylar Knowles, Alyssa Brown, and Natalie Brown.

The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM Saturday (Sept. 16) at Summersett Funeral Home followed by a service at 4 PM at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Elder
Dale Brown, Minister of Pierce Chapel, Trinity, officiating.

Mrs. Cooper will be moved to the Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd, West, Silver Spring, MD where the family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM Monday (Sept. 18) followed by a Graveside Service at 2 PM at George Washington Cemetery, Adelphi, MD.
