Richard A. Dickson (Age 95)
Dr. Richard A. Dickson of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born in Washington, DC on October 11, 1920. He was the son of the late Richard Aloysius Dickson, Sr. and Mable (Parsley) Dickson. He was the husband of the late Mary Margaret Perry Dickson; father of Daniel (Coty) Dickson of Great Falls, VA, John Dickson of San Dimas, CA, Emily Dickson (David) Conrad of Bowie, MD and the late Jean Dickson Arnst (William); and grandfather of Nathan Young, Amy Dean, Karin Arnst, Janet Napier, Patrick Dickson, Travis Conrad, Casey Conrad and great-grandfather of eight. He was a 1938 graduate of McKinley Tech High School in Washington, DC. After completing two years of college at Georgetown University, he was accepted into Georgetown Dental School graduating in 1944. Richard was a WWII veteran serving as a dentist in the U.S. Navy. He was later recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Richard practiced dentistry in the Silver Spring area for over 54 years. He was quite an adventurous individual in his younger years. He participated in many of these adventures with lifelong friends Ralph Rawlings and Arlo Darby. One of his adventures involved hopping a freight train in Washington DC and traveling to California. Later in life, he was an avid fisherman and golfer. He spent many hours fishing for rockfish on the Chesapeake Bay with his longtime friends Andy Matzel and Lawrence Parsley. When not fishing, he enjoyed golfing with his buddies Frank Junghans and Bill Wilkinson. Interment was at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate and remember his life at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West Silver Spring, Maryland, on August 13, 2016 at 11am, a reception will follow.
