Charles John “Chuck” Engelhardt
Charles was born in Queens, New York on April 1st, 1925 to George Francis and Elizabeth Katherine (née Baumgartner) Engelhardt. He was graduated from The Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1955 with a Bachelors degree in Science and went on to study Civil Engineering receiving a Masters degree in 1959 in Science from New York University.
Charles passed the New York State examination and was awarded his civil engineering license in 1960 and began his professional career as a project engineer at Hardesty & Hanover from 1954 to 1960. He then worked at American Car & Foundry as the supervising engineer for design and drafting from 1960 to 1962 in Berwick, Pennsylvania. Returning to New York, Charles next worked for the Port of New York Authority as a rail planning engineer from 1962 to 1966. Prompting a move to Connecticut in 1966, Charles became a marketing manager and eventually the director of international marketing for Sikorsky Aircraft from 1966 to 1976 which afforded him the opportunity to see the world selling helicopters throughout Asia and Central Africa. Charles finished his professional career in Washington, DC with AMTRAK as director of equipment engineering & development from 1976 until his retirement as senior director in 1991. Charles was instrumental in introducing high speed rail travel to the Eastern corridor.
Among his proudest achievements, after his father signed him up due to his young age, Charles served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II from 1943 to 1945 being honorably discharged having obtained the rank of private first class. He embodied “semper fi”, attending many reunions and Marine celebrations.
Charles served as commander of Butler Johnson Post of the American Legion in Elmsford, NY., was a member of the New York Railroad and very active in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence H. (Nee Contarini), two sons: Charles George and Stephen Richard, daughter-in-law Constance Jane and two grandchildren: Brooke Katherine and Perry Joseph. Charles died of natural causes on July 1st, 2016.

JOSE M. FRANCO
Jose M. Franco of Wheaton, Maryland passed away on Tuesday June 28, 2016 after an accidental drowning while snorkeling in Tulum, Mexico. Jose was 29 years old. He was born in Canton Llano el Angel, Ciudad Barrios, San Miguel, El Salvador on May 1, 1987 to Mercedes Franco and Candida Fuentes de Franco. He is survived by his three brothers, Freddy, Alex, and William and his sister, Yancy, his beloved girlfriend, Elizabeth, and his eleven nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. He graduated in 2005 from Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, MD. Jose then studied Architecture and Construction Management and started his own design and build company. Jose had a passion for soccer and he dedicated much of his time to coaching youth soccer and futsal teams. He was an exemplary role model to the kids, now young men that he coached for 7 years. As an avid fan of the Real Madrid Soccer team, one of his favorite pastimes was to watch the matches with his brothers. He was a person who was always bringing out the best in people, encouraging them to do their best and to always pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacle. Jose was full of laughter, optimism and life. He will always be remembered as a humble man with a loving and selfless attitude. Jose was truly a blessing to anyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed by his many friends, family, and loved ones. The family will have a celebration of his life on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 7:00 PM followed by an all-night wake at St. Mark’s Church, 7501 Adelphi Road. Hyattsville, MD 20783. DEBORAH JOSEPHINE DENTON
Deborah Josephine Denton, 65, lost her year-long cancer battle on June 22, 2016. Deborah was a devoted daughter and sister, a lover of animals and a fierce political advocate. Deborah was proceeded in death by her beloved father, James Kenneth Denton. She will be greatly missed by her mother, Josephine Howard Denton, sisters Donna (Jeff) Curry and Denise (Steve) Hearn, niece Annie Crawford, nephew Jake Curry and her dear friends, Kathy and Claudina. Deborah was born in 1950 on Christmas Day in Sweetwater, TN. With sparkling eyes and a fiery spirit, it became evident that she was destined for great things. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with several degrees, including a Master”s Degree in History and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee School of Law. Upon graduation, Deborah began her law career. This path led her from Tennessee to Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Deborah finally settled in Washington, D.C., where she was employed first by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and then the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Deborah was passionate about many things, none so more than animals. Deborah loved all animals and always had room in her home for one more creature. She rescued the sick, the dying, and the lost and gave them a better life. Deborah was a strict vegetarian and refused to wear leather or use any products that were tested on animals. Deborah was also impassioned about social injustice. As a staunch Democrat, she was not afraid to express her opinion or engage people in playful political banter. She was an advocate for the disenfranchised and believed strongly in equal rights. Deborah was extremely intelligent and was always well-versed in current events and political topics. Deborah was an avid reader and could magically remember everything she ever read. During Deborah”s free time, she enjoyed exploring museums and catching a show or two. Over the past 20 years, Deborah saw almost every new Broadway play and musical with its original cast. Deborah also created beautiful pieces of jewelry that were worthy of display in the museums she loved to visit. She also liked to go to flea markets to find treasures that she could add to her vast antique collections. She completed the New York Marathon, not once, but twice. Deborah was a creative, intuitive, passionate soul with the drive to make the world a better place. On behalf of Deborah Josephine Denton, her family would like to thank the nurses and doctors from Georgetown University Hospital for their caring hearts. Deborah will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Beloved husband of the late Violet Mae Randel; father of George Randel, Elaine Aehle, Charles Randel, Laura Perkins, Steven Randel and the late Jacqueline Randel. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
