On May 7, 2016 of Silver Spring, MD formerly of Matawan, NJ .Beloved wife of 51 years to the late Fred Cholewinski; mother of Patricia L. Nicholson (Timothy C.)of Milton, DE and Aileen M. Ilaria of Zionsville, IN. Grandmother of Timothy K. Nicholson (Jennifer Porter), Christopher Nicholson (Tara), Meredith Benoit (Michael), Jessica Ilaria, Amanda Ilaria and Alyssa Ilaria. Great-grandmother of Cora L. Nicholson, Victoria K. Benoit and Evelyn R. Nicholson. Also survived by brothers, Gregory Barclay (Liz) and Anthony Barclay (Donna); and many special nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. Preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Archer and Genevieve Holbrook; and her brother, James Barclay.

Mrs. Cholewinski was born and raised in Rockville Centre, NY to parents James J. and Magdalen Barclay. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School for Girls in 1940. After graduation she matriculated to Hunter College, but graduated from Kean University with a BA in Education and then received her MA in Administration from Fordham University. She was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Omicron Sorority. Prior to her extensive career in education, she was Chief Hostess for TWA and taught Hostess training school in Kansas City, MO and Washington, DC in the mid 1940”s. She taught at St. Joseph School in Keyport, N.J. and she taught and was principal of St. Benedict School in Holmdel, N.J. until her retirement in 1989. Connie was the first lay principal in the Trenton Diocese.

Elizabeth Cassidy Gilday (Age 83)

Died peacefully on May 7, 2016, surrounded by children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Thomas Aquinas Gilday, and her eldest daughter Theresa. Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Bethesda, Maryland on March 14, 1933. She attended Blessed Sacrament grade school followed by Georgetown Visitation High School and Junior College. She worked as a medical secretary at Georgetown Hospital before marrying Tom in 1953 and raising eight children in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Elizabeth was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1970 and was a long-time member of Columbia Country Club and Holy Redeemer Parish. Elizabeth loved people, painting, golf, and Capon Springs! She was a deeply spiritual person who loved a good laugh. She was an inspiration, friend and mentor to many people.

Elizabeth is survived by seven children, Thomas A. Gilday, Jr. (Karen), Mark Gilday (Susie), Meg Gilday Greaney (Michael), Matthew Gilday (Genny), Ellen Gilday Witts (Garry), Maura Gilday (Heidi Hansan) and John Gilday (Emily). She leaves behind 22 beloved grandchildren, Catherine, Seton, Isabel, Thomas, Patrick, Bridget (Cory), Brendan, Erin, Matthew (Maria), Christine (Jeff), Maggie, Garrett, Steven, Andrew, Madeline, Luke, Colleen, Kendal, Daniel, Molly, Clare and Mark; and one great-granddaughter, Madison. She is also survived by her brother, Alan Cassidy of Easton, Maryland; her sister, Janet Casey of Kensington, Maryland; her sister-in-law, Esther Cassidy of Olney, Maryland, and her sister-in-law, Margaret Gilday of Albany, New York.

On Wednesday May 4, 2016, of Washington, DC. Beloved husband of Barbara Pindar Smith; father of Gregory Allgire (Susan Watts) Smith, Cecily (Stephen) Fishack, Andrea-Marie (Donald Jones) Smith-Jones, Veronica Smith (Michael) L”Allier, Mark Stratton (Elizabeth Bloch-Smith) Smith, Teresa Marie Smith, Valerie Marie Smith, Jeffrey Collert (Jeanne) Smith, and Stephanie (Bradford) Bosserman. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and brother, Gordon Smith. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Reichert Smith; great-grandson Charles Jay Smith; sister, Jacqueline Hohler and sister-in-law, Bonita Smith. He entered St. Joseph”s College Rensselaer, IN, in September 1942. In March 1944, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force. In 1946, he returned to St. Joseph”s and graduated in 1947 with a B.S. in Mathematics. He went to University of Michigan and earned an M.A. in Political Science in 1948 and continued graduate studies at The Catholic University of America where he received a Ph.D. in Political Science in 1951. Mr. Smith retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 1981 as Director of Training and Education. At the time of his death, Donald Smith had completed a study of the many technological achievements of Medieval French Monasteries. Corwin “Corky” Hansen, Capt. USNR Retired and engineer, on Saturday, April 9, 2016. He was 97. Born October 13, 1918, he is survived by daughters, Lee (Ed) Harrison and Elizabeth (Jim) Monroe; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of some 60 years, Beatrice.
