PATRICIA MAY FLYNN
Patricia Flynn (née Holland), age 85, of Silver Spring passed away September 4, 2015, at her home in Silver Spring. A native of Chicago, Pat moved to the Washington area in 1956 with her husband, Michael F. Flynn, Sr., who died in 1999. She was past president of the St. Camillus Women’s Club and a member of the Gonzaga Mother’s Club. A devoted Catholic and gracious hostess, her greatest joy was spending time with her large family and many friends.
Pat leaves behind her seven beloved children and their spouses: Michael (Eileen), Dan (Priscilla), and John (Teresa), all of Silver Spring; Tim (Patti) of Olney, Md.; Bridget Polanin (John) of Chatham, N.J. and Sydney, Australia; Sheila Maloney (Tim) of Kensington, Md. and Mary Agnes Trainor (Mike) of Salem, Ma.; 24 cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her children Eileen and Thomas and her sister, Margaret Mear.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring; where the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 11, 10 a.m. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Catholic Charities, 924 G Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001.

Of Silver Spring, MD, loving husband of Nancy Best passed away on September 2, 2015. Born March 22, 1940 in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late Isaac and Azile Best. Roy is also survived by his loving son David Best (Janet) and daughter Marie Pearson (Douglas); brother Richard Best and sister Irma Reaves. Four loving grandchildren Courtney Burke (Andrew), Matthew Best, Katelyn and Emily Pearson. On September 3, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Ann F. Scullen, father of Kathleen S. Barron, Thomas M. Scullen, James E. Scullen, Charles F. Scullen, Mary S. Willson and the late Paul J. Scullen; brother of Edward J. Scullen and the late Elizabeth Draper; father-in-law of Lynn, Janet, Barbara Scullen and the late Robert Willson. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He proudly served in the US Army as a combat engineer from 1941 to 1946 and in the US Army Reserve from 1952 to 1962 and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Service World War II Victory Medal and the American Defense Service Medal. (Carol); grandfather of Michael, David, Matthew (Cheryl), Christopher (Alex), Thomas (Jessica) Williams and Jennifer (Dave) Rittenhouse. Elmer was great-grandfather to Beaufort and Lawson Williams and was greatly anticipating the arrival of great-granddaughter, Williams. His brother, Ernest Clark Williams, resides in Elmer’s native state of Oklahoma. MOORE, Sarah Frances

On Wednesday, September 2, 2015, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of 65 years to the late Bernard Joseph Moore “Barney;” mother of Brian (Sally) Moore and Bernice (Ray) Weise; grandmother of Kelly Nowottnick, Colleen Eccles, Alexander Moore and Paul Weise. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Barney, her parents, Martin and Sarah Curley and four brothers and sisters. Mrs. Moore was born in Newbridge, County Galway, Ireland. At the age of twenty-three she sailed from Ireland to New York where she joined her two sisters. While residing in New York she worked at St. Francis Hospital and General Electric. In 1947, she married Barney and took up residence in Forest Hills, New York. They were members of Our Lady of the Angelus Catholic Church where the children attended school and Frances served as President of the Catholic Women’s Society. Her husband’s leadership position with The Hilton Corporation brought the family to Washington, DC. Mrs. Moore continued her volunteer efforts at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and School in Silver Spring, MD and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Later, Frances retired from Citizens Bank of Maryland. Frances and Barney were ardent bridge players and loyal Redskins fans. Frances was a woman of deep Catholic faith and loved her family more than life itself. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Beloved wife of the late Raymond Joseph Prost; cherished mother of Marilyn Sullivan and Dianne O’Leary (Timothy); proud grandmother of Kathleen Deane (Benton), Susan Burke (John), Michael Sullivan (Ellie Yieh), Mary Beth Boyle (John), Theresa O’Leary, Thomas O’Leary and Brendan O’Leary (Jessica Topel). Also survived by six treasured great-grandchildren and other loving family and friends. TANA, Vincent J.

VINCENT J. TANA (Age 95)
Vincent Tana passed away in the early morning on August 29, 2015. Mr. Tana was born in Washington, DC in 1919 to Frank and Gemma Tana. Mr. Tana was married to Marie Kasner of Westphalia, Texas in 1947. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Cecilia Tana of Westphalia, Texas and Margaret Tana and her husband Michael Dymek of Silver Spring, Maryland. Mr. Tana was preceded in death by two children, Charles and Lorraine Tana.
Mr. Tana served in the National Guard until February 1941 when he was called to active duty with the 29th Infantry Division. In April 1942, Mr. Tana’s unit was transferred to the 37th Infantry Division. He served in the Pacific Theater and was discharged from the Army in 1946. Mr. Tana then joined the Army Reserve from which he retired in 1979 as a Sergeant Major. He was employed by the Washington Terminal Company and Amtrak for 52 years. Mr. Tana was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Knights of Columbus, the 29th Infantry Division Association, and the 37th Infantry Division Association.
Services will be held at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia, Texas on September 4 at 10 a.m. On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, friends and relatives may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a later date.
