KATHLEEN MOORE OLIVERIO
Kathleen “Katie” Moore Oliverio, age 81, of Bethany Beach Delaware and formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed peacefully in her home on January 4, 2015, surrounded and embraced by her loving family members, after waging a courageous battle with cancer. A vivacious, fun-loving and fiercely loyal Irish-American woman who hailed from Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the devoted and cherished wife of 61 years to Dr. Vincent T. Oliverio, also of Bethany Beach. Known to her family and many life-long friends as “Katie O”, she was small in stature, but considered a giant of a person who possessed an indomitable spirit and zest for life, family, work and especially her Roman Catholic faith. Katie has left an enduring legacy that spans four generations and that has touched innumerable friends, colleagues and acquaintances alike. In addition to her husband Vincent, she is survived by her 11 children, John (Jennifer), Catherine (Kurt), Mary, Peggy Konieczka (Quinn), Nancy Farinacci (Dino), Matthew (Kathleen), Patricia Gallorini, Martin (Missy), Joseph (Jeanette), James (Antoinette) and Monica Stewart (Brent); 42 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She worked as a registered emergency room nurse for 24 years at Holy Cross Hospital and volunteered at various health care clinics in Florida, Delaware and Maryland following her retirement. Her greatest and proudest achievement and joy in life was her vast, but close-knit and adoring family. All of her family delighted immeasurably in spending precious time with their “Granny”, especially frolicking with her and “Papa” at the seashore where Katie found great peace and comfort. Throughout her adult life, Katie was an active, dedicated volunteer and daily communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Silver Spring and St. Ann’s Parish in Bethany Beach. Her renowned and inspirational toasts or “words of wisdom” will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for those who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her.
Calling hours will be held at Collins Funeral Home, on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20901.
