ROLAND HADLEY CUNNINGHAM
Roland Hadley Cunningham, 75, died of cancer August 16, 2014 at Casey House, Montgomery Hospice, Rockville, MD He lived in Silver Spring and has been a resident since 1982. A Memorial Service will be held at Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church, 3215 Powder Mill Road, Adelphi, MD 20783, on September 13, 2004 at 3 p.m., with reception to follow from 3:30 to 5 p.m. We want to celebrate this man’s Body of Work, so please bring your favorite memories to share.
BA New York University, 1962; NYU School of Fine Arts Conservation Program 1969; served as Chief Paintings Conservator for the Wadsworth Athenaeum, Hartford, Connecticut, from 1971 to 1981. From 1982, he served as Senior Paint Conservator with the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Conservation and Materials, Museum Support Center, Suitland, MD, retiring Emeritus in 2010.
His career spanned more than 50 years, taking him to Egypt, Holland, France, Germany, and Italy, where he restored paintings and objects damaged in the floods in Florence and Milan in 1967. He is also credited with restoring the Trumbull paintings of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence for the Bicentennial while at the Wadsworth Athenaeum, restoring the “Little Mermaid” on the Brown University Campus, restoring the murals on the Tarrytown, NY estate of Nelson Rockefeller, repairing the staircase panel from the Whistler exhibit when he first arrived in DC, restoring the two 4th to 10th century Japanese Fresco’s hanging in the stairwell of the Sackler Gallery for the permanent collection, and most recently x-raying Alan Shepherd’s spacesuit for the National Air and Space Museum’s publication and tour “Suited for Space”.
Mr. Cunningham made significant contributions and articles in the AIC Journals, Microscopy Today, and research in materials and pigments.

SHAWN RICHARD GANGLOFF
Shawn Richard Gangloff of Olney, Maryland was granted his angel wings on August 31, 2014 following a car accident the day before. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Shawn had touched throughout his short, yet memorable and full life. To all of us Shawn’s life was far too short, but he lived his life to the fullest. He touched many by always having a smile and by sharing his positive and loving spirit. He is survived by his loving parents, Rick and Allison Gangloff, his beloved brother Brett, grandparents, Bill and Elaine Gangloff and Jim and Mary Mooney, uncles, Bill (Lynn) Gangloff, Jr. and Ed (Irene) Gangloff, Jay Mooney and Chris (Yu) Mooney, cousins, Robert Gangloff, Trevor Mooney, Brianna Mooney, Hana Mooney and a host of other relatives and friends. Shawn was born in Washington, DC on September 24, 1998, attended Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD. He was an outstanding athlete (lacrosse) and artist. Shawn was wonderful, kind, loving, talented, and funny. He was fortunate to have so many friends. He will always be missed and remembered for his love of life. Lin Chang (Age 74)
Of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Beloved husband of 42 years to Yong Chang; loving father of Cathy (David) and Tina (Daniel); devoted grandfather of Jeffrey, Matthew, Danny, Colin and Finn. Also survived by one brother and three sisters. Lin was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States at the age of 35 to provide a better future for his family. He worked for 34 years until the age of 72 as a Master HVAC Mechanic for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. MARY GORMAN LAWLER
Mary Lawler, 81, died at home on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Bethesda, MD, surrounded by her family. Mary was the daughter of prominent Illinois politician Howard J. Gorman and Bernadette Ryan Gorman. She attended Trinity College in Washington, DC and graduated from Northwestern University. She was a former staff member of the National Estimates Board of the Central Intelligence Agency, a White House volunteer, and a 28-year volunteer at the National Gallery of Art. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William E. Lawler, Jr., her children William Lawler, III (Lisa), Maria Lawler Perry (Mike), and Andrew Lawler (Melissa); and her five grandchildren Caroline Lawler, William Lawler, IV, Andrew Perry, Christopher Perry and Claire Perry.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7500 Pearl St., Bethesda, MD 20814 on Saturday, September 6th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Suze Collins Malta House Fund, 4918 Lasalle Rd., Hyattsville, MD 20782.
